SNOWSTORM NEAR CODY

Last week I drove through two snowstorms this weekend the skies are blue. This snowstorm was on my way back from Cody. I saw the cows and had to stop to take photos. They were far away so I had to zoom which means the camera has to be very still….the wind was blowing as it only does in Wyoming- fiercely! I managed to get some but I wish I knew what kind of cows they are.

SUNRISE HORSE

I know my horse loving brother will enjoy these photos! I woke up exhausted thinking I would roll over and sleep another three hours when I saw the sun coming in my window. Up dressed and out the door with my camera in a flash (although I did start the coffee!)

way out of focus but I didn’t delete it ’cause I thought it looked cool!

COWS AT THE RANCH

Robin again showing me their brand…this one is a little big and not actually used on the cows

this brings back memories of playing on hay bales!! I remember my siblings and I building forts!

all the little cows lined up to eat

Too precious!

LAMBING 2

Finally I have time to post these! Katherine who is transferring the new lambs and mommas in the photos below read my questions I forgot to ask (or just plain forgot ’cause I’m getting THAT old) and posted this on my wall:

Well hello there 🙂 Glad to hear you enjoyed your tour. The breed is Suffolk and they are raised for show and meat. Hope you are enjoying your first months at your new job 🙂 Talk to you soon!

I learn something new every day!

They even have baby cows although this photo didn’t turn out too well it is still so cute almost makes me feel guilty about all that jerky I eat!

These photos say it all….

This barn cat chose the right moment to meow!!! I love this photo!

This is a photo of Katherine the Great! Katherine is Robin’s daughter and she is an extraordinary western woman with a smile that lights up Montana…actually the whole family has that same smile.  Katherine, I think has taken over running the sheep part of the ranch.

These are older sheep…

And these are the rams!!

I woke up this morning in pain from a pinched nerve in my lower back and remembering my short time spent on the farm has a big grin on my face! Now if the damn aspirins would work a little faster….

LAMBING SEASON

I had a wonderful albeit cold experience touring a ranches lambing operation. I was like a little kid taking pictures until my fingers froze…it wasn’t that cold but the wind chill was!

The sheep have been sheared and now they are all having their cute little lambs…

The lovely owner and tour guide Robin abandoned her busy day to gift me with the tour and to answer my numerous questions!

This pen of sheep is filled with mamas and their babies who are a few days old and in good health!

Robin explained to me that since the sheep are black and white the wool is used for felt. I wonder if this breed of sheep is more suitable for Montana….I forgot to ask what breed they are!

Isn’t that they cutest thing ever???

These pens are new babies who need to be watched more carefully.

One of the mothers was a first timer and her babies were having a hard time finding their food

Here Robin is explaining when they will interfere and help the little ones who can’t quite figure it out.

More to come!!
