LIVING IN PAHRUMP…RUN LIKE THE HOUNDS OF HELL ARE CHASING AFTER YOU!!!! (EDITED AND REVISED) (once again)

Latest Update:

I originally posted this over two years ago and it is  the most read and searched post on my blog. Not a day goes by without someone searching living in Pahrump or retiring in Pahrump. It is quite controversial, while some people understand what I have written others become irate….and unhinged! When I originally wrote it I tried to interject some humor but was beside myself… scared, exhausted filled with turmoil….stress….fear….I have since come to better grips with the situation in Nevada. While the lack of services in the State of Nevada continues to confound me….the lack of empathy and compassion from some of the people commenting equally amazes me and reflects the dispassionate, unwillingness to help, at the Sheriff’s office. Human services almost always reflect the sentiment of the surrounding community.

Recently someone opposed to my post left a well written comment (you have to click on comments and scroll down to the bottom) At first glance it seemed C.L. made some good points….but then I started to think about all of the stuff she avoided. I may be completely wrong but my hunch is that C.L. is a woman. If she works then it is not  in the capacity of being a person of responsibility towards others, unless of course C.L. is a  sociopath. The more I think about C.L. the more annoyed I am by what “she” wrote….the only thing of substance or problem solving was the suggestion of checking the internet for sex-offenders.In these times where secure futures are precarious jobs hang by a thread…many a retirement portfolio wiped out …loss of health insurance….the sheer uncertainty of these times….the utter lack of empathy for others plight is astounding. Of course this person lacks empathy….wakes up every single day to look out her HOUSE on ONE ACRE at her THOUSAND FOOT GARDEN and TWO HORSES…DUCKS, CHICKENS and TWO DOGS.  Now I have no idea who this person is or how well she takes care of her horses says her sons do it. But…I cannot tell you how many times I have seen horses in Pahrump and Las Vegas day after day in a small enclosed area with no shade…day after day in 100+ weather feeling every bit as miserable as they look. Heads hung low…Selfish owners….can only think of themselves…their immediate gratification…Wild horses in the desert don’t stand in the hot sun they look for what ever shade they can a tree the outcropping of rocks….ANYWHERE! Now maybe she does have a barn…but horses need to graze….the less vegetation the more space they need. In Elko, Nevada the law is two horses per acre and I’m sure they mean a WHOLE acre…not one with a thousand square foot garden and a house! Plus ducks and chickens and two dogs…Can you imagine the hubris of worrying about my cursing when God has to look down on that mess?? And the hubris of this person who exclaims “Darn it”….as if she wasn’t thinking “Damn it”….honestly  its like the EMPEROR WITH NO CLOTHES….lets all pretend!! Truth be told I envy the complete ignorance of some people….either you are asleep or pretending to be asleep so you can remain oblivious while others sweep up the mess or try to mend the fence…but damn it all once in awhile I would love the ability to be oblivious to the plight of those surrounding me!! Even for an hour or so…..

Oh and speaking of the phase “DARN IT” here’s what the URBAN DICTIONARY has to say:

It means damn
Gall darn it
A way for ‘religious types’ to say damn without offending others of their ilk.

More importantly, its a way of releasing anger when something happens, but unlike the originator – “Damn”, it doesnt roll off the tongue so easily and would appear to repress the repressed ‘religious types’ even more so than if they had gone all out and said the word “Damn”

Darn it, I just killed my wife and two children crashing into a tree. I’m such a Darn fool! I’ll be damned to hell, DARN it!

I woke up this morning knowing I had to update this post so I hope it helps someone who is, or has a family member considering moving there. I think it would be a good town to move to if you are fairly young, independently wealthy and have a love for the desert!

#1 There are no jobs in Pahrump and if you are lucky to find one it will be minimum wage. (with the exception of government jobs and top management in the few casinos….but you will have to wait for someone to be fired or who moves before one becomes available. I hear you can now apply at the prison that was just built in town!) There are jobs in Vegas but it is a minimum 67 mile drive one way. The economy in Vegas is one of the worst in the United States and I am sure that the job market there is not doing as well as when I was there.

#2 You have to drive to Vegas for EVERYTHING unless you can shop Walmart 365 days a year. They do have a Home Depot in now….Oh I forgot they are building a prison there too!!!! In town no less not on the outskirts as any other sane town that is trying to encourage business. As I said before you have to drive to Las Vegas for pretty much everything. The main road to Vegas is Blue Diamond Hwy or 160 and it is dangerous. The road is mostly  a straight line so why so many accidents??? Because everyone speeds or falls asleep there are only shoulders going one way and they do not have enough space to correct yourself if your car wanders.(I was there recently and they have now put a shoulder on both sides of the road this should prevent many accidents) . Nevada itself is famous for people running red lights. Never trust a light when it turns green ALWAYS look to see if traffic has stopped. Even that is not a guarantee.  Pahrump only has about 2 lights although I think that they have acquired a third so as you drive everyday you take your life in your own hands. I am a very good defensive driver so none of this effected my life until I was rear ended while stopped at a stop sign. Oh and did I tell you about the time I was driving down a main road with the rightaway for miles and some elderly person pulled right in front of me. I had to slam on my brakes and the Sushi I had just picked up went flying all over my car! I saw more accidents the year I lived there than I have seen in my entire life. If the above is not enough to scare you please keep reading…

#3 Many of the health care professionals live and have offices in Vegas and only visit their offices in Pahrump a few days a week or every other week.) There is an emergency clinic and a hospital. But neither is prepared to handle a real emergency. If you do have an emergency you better have the best health care in the world because do you know how much an ambulance to Las Vegas costs from Pahrump and that is the cheap alternative. If it is a REAL emergency than they fly you by helicopter and you might as well file for bankruptcy unless you are Bill Gates or Warren Buffet. Or you can purchase special insurance in case you need to take the helicopter. If you are looking to retire there…let me be blunt no matter the good health you are in currently shit happens! …And your health is not getting any better it is declining and dare I say when you are looking to buy a retirement home you are looking for a place that you would like to die in, maybe it will take 20 or 30 years but that is the end result. Still want to hear more??

#4 So you want to move to Pahrump, because you do not want to pay income tax??? They charge taxes for everything else and guess what???? NO INCOME TAX NO SOCIAL SERVICES!!!  First of all Nevada as a state is fiscally irresponsible and the nice socialist state of Oregon with all of its wonderful social programs has had a rainy day fund. What does this mean to an elderly person in Nevada? Let us put it this way I had a family emergency not long ago. I drove 15 hours went straight to the Sheriff’s office 11:30 at night and they basically told me to go fuck myself. Actually what they said is that I was wasting their time….guns involved….too bad!!! What they told me was this: There is an elderly woman in Pahrump who believes that there are people living in the walls of her home so she has been making holes in her walls and destroying them…..the sheriff’s office can do nothing because it is her house and she has the right to tear down her walls!! If she has guns and her neighbors are naturally nervous the sheriff’s office can do nothing….she has her rights. The only circumstances that they would interfere is if she had NO food in her cabinets. This is what happens to many elderly people when they suffer from something as simple as a lack of vitamin b. Even the public officials  in Virginia were shaking their heads at the lack of services provided for the elderly in Pahrump and Nevada (yes I got more help from the State of Virginia! And to top it off they weren’t rude!!!)….THERE IS NO SAFETY NET!!!! I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH TO YOU THAT I HAVE NEVER EVER LIVED IN A STATE….ANYWHERE THAT YOU COULD NOT CALL OR GO TO THE POLICE AND THEY WOULD WANT TO HELP YOU. Need an escort out of a scary area??? call the police!! Been away from home for a week and notice an open window???call the police!! In most cities they will bend over backwards to help you for these simple situations. It makes them feel good as there are so many times that people are not appreciative of their services. Haven’t heard enough yet???

#5 The money that you will save not paying taxes will go straight to the electric company unless you buy a home installed with a swamp cooler instead of air conditioning. Most houses in Pahrump were built with air conditoning. It is ridiculous the amount of electricity that people use in Pahrump…they move there because the heat is supposedly good for their arthritis and then they live in their air conditioned homes….and complain about how hot it is. And by the way I hear that even the electric company is corrupt. Here’s some more…

#6 Pahrump is the home to meth production, legalized prostitution and a soon to be built prison. They are already starting to have a gang problem wait until the prison gets built did I mention THEY ARE BUILDING IT IN TOWN??? They say it will be a nice prison that will only have soft criminals… immigration issues…hurry up do these people think that the people busted for immigration violations are just women who are working as housekeepers???NO! They are usually people who have committed more serious crimes! In addition to all of this the elected officials are always under investigation for corruption…you name it…If you want to know more about what goes on in Pahrump they have 2 newspapers and the one that is not afraid to tell the truth is THE MIRROR which is owned by brothel entrepreneur Joe Richards. Yes the most reliable newspaper in Pahrump is owned by a man who makes his living off of renting out women by the hour!!! Before you consider moving there I recommend that you faithfully read his paper for 6 months and if that doesn’t deter you… rent for a year. If you are considering buying a home in Pahrump I emplore you to spend the money to fly in an independent home inspector from another state.

#7 The town itself is ugly. Butt ugly.

#8 Just in case you think I have nothing positive to say about Pahrump. The hills surrounding Pahrump have Joshua trees and I love them all! Mt. Charleston looms in the background and it is beautiful. Pahrump has beautiful sunsets! It is located about an hour from Death Valley. Death Valley is very beautiful…but there is a reason it is called Death Valley carry lots of water with you when traveling in the desert. Also there is an interesting Opera House in Armagosa that a ballet dancer from New York City has been running for ages. There is also Red Rock Canyon outside of Vegas. If you are a UFO buff AREA 51 is close by. And finally one of my favorite places is the China Ranch Date Farm in Tecopa.

#9 I love visiting Pahrump but wouldn’t want to live there.

#10  Not far from Pahrump is Yucca Mountain where the United States will soon be storing nuclear waste. We have to store it somewhere!

I hope this helps even one person in life!

UPDATE!!

Because of the nasty comment I thought I would look up and see what is going on in Pahrump these days and I found this:

Tweaker town

Pahrump fights a never-ending battle against meth cooks and speed freaks

I sympathize with anyone who has a drug problem it is devastating not only to the individual but to friends and family and the community but this is something that I would also consider when looking for a place to retire.

I went back to Pahrump a few months ago and here are more reasons for not moving there if you are a lover of books the largest book store in town is..

ScannedImage-35N

Nothing against sex at all but not a Borders, or Barnes and Noble in sight!…then I thought that maybe there was a section of town that I was not aware of…that perhaps I had missed…so I turned to the Yellow Pages!

ScannedImage-34

Now Music Mind & Matter is a nice little “New Age” store that used to be owned by the folks that did OUT THERE T.V. (now called MATRIX NEWS  NETWORK). They do have a very good selection of  UFO, New Age, 2012 books.  Nothing wrong with a Christian book store but its not my sort of thing. Someone told me that the used book store is mostly paperback top 10 and historical romances but since I have not been there you have to check it out for yourself. There was a fairly good used book store by the post office but it went out of business due to health issues. If you move to Pahrump your best bet is Amazon or the 60 mile drive to Henderson where they have both Barnes & Nobel and Borders although when I was in Borders a few months ago they had taken out most of their music and were rearranging I was shocked at how low the stock levels were. Not a good sign! They did still have a good magazine selection!

OK now for the brothels…its funny that there are so many because Pahrump is a Mormon town…run by Mormon’s. The reason it is so underdeveloped is because most of the land is owned by a few people who want top dollar for their property….so it is VERY expensive to open a business there. Wal-Mart could afford it and now there is finally a HOME DEPOT. This is not a town that is trying to preserve its integrity or develop into a nice retirement community…everything goes to the highest bidder. It’s not like Santa Fe, or Boca Raton…the landscape that you see in the photo of the Adult Superstore is what the whole town looks like. There are pockets of nice landscape around the casinos and there are the whack job homeowners who landscape like they are in Florida with green lawns…wasting the precious resource of water!

ScannedImage-37

There is an ongoing battle with the brothel owners, town commissioners and who ever else involved in such things. Heidi Fleiss the Hollywood Madam was rumored to be opening a brothel that catered to women or partnering up with Joe Richards…but because of the politics instead opened a laundry shop

ScannedImage-34

Now as I said I am no fan of prostitution but either its legal or not…the politics involved with who is allowed to have a brothel and who isn’t is ridiculous and motivated by some higher moral issue but greed and politics. I forgot to take a photo of  The Kingdom which is a building that looks like a castle and is owned and operated by Joe Richards. It is a strip club that is the first building heading to Pahrump from Las Vegas he opened it in retaliation for the denial of building a brothel. Even I have to take Joe Richards side in this case….in the  ideal world that I dream of there would be no prostitution!!

Here are several articles on the subject

THE LAS VEGAS MERCURY

PAHRUMP VALLEY TIMES….the FBI arrests Joe Richards

THE LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL…Joe Richards is convicted.

THE LOS ANGELES TIMES…weighs in. The person commenting at the bottom has it right the commissioners are the ones that need to be investigated!

STATE OF NEVADA COMMISSION ON ETHICS…just in case you think Candice Trummel is a sweet moral politician who has not been corrupted by greed. Apparently the whole family is greedy and corrupt!! This seems to be the norm in Pahrump!

THE LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL…an piece on some series on brothels in Pahrump that aired on the Sundance channel.

And in recent news here is info on two more corrupt commissioners Liakopoulos and Neth.

PAHRUMP VALLEY TIMES Liakopoulos is a whack job who had his own talk show every week pretending to be a veteran and bilking people out of money the people elected him as a commissioner so his corruption could be more widespread. (Glad I wrote this article it seems the sob lists his address as Florence, Oregon…time to warn those good citizens!) Neth bilked investors.

PAHRUMP VALLEY TIMES…more on Liakopoulos.

NEVADA ETHICS COMPLAINT ….just in case you think Laurayne Murray who testified about Liakopoulos is free of corruption you can read this complaint.

LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL…more on Henry Neth

I could do this all day long…..

My personal thoughts on prostitution are scattered through out this post…another personal opinion of mine surrounds the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS who have spent who knows how much money against gays but who has built an empire off of peoples addictions, SEX, GAMBLING  and ALCOHOL. For those of you who do not know the second highest concentration of Mormons is  Las Vegas…if the church were true to its teachings every single person who works for or runs a casino, serves alcohol would be excommunicated or at least deemed not worthy of Temple….nor would the church accept their tithing from these people…but as we all know churches are corrupt and will take blood money anyway they can get it….IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST no less!!

CHOOSE CAREFULLY BEFORE RETIRING TO THIS TOWN!!!

Don’t forget the car registration fees.

Last year, it cost me $293 to renew the registration on a 5-year-old Honda.

The same car in Arizona would have cost $8 in registration fees. In North Carolina, it would have been a “whopping” $28.

I, too, hope your post helps even one person. I’m already here in Nevada. Too late for me.

Since you have so many issues with Pahrump, why even visit? Next time you are in town do us all a favor and keep on going.

    P.S. Go fuck yourself.

Thank You Bob! For further making my case that Pahrump, Nevada is a place to scratch off your list if you are considering retiring there.

Oh and I forgot to mention those of you thinking of retiring to Pahrump not only are many of the denizens lacking in manners and angry; they are quite racist to boot!

ELIZETHTOOL left out pahtumps dirty little secret. The aquafer is being rapidly depleted. The water rights in the valley are owned by a few “well connected” people. Be prepared to pay dearly for water in the very near future. This preferable to having no water-also in the very near future. Be careful of this place, it is one big lie!!!

Thank you for the information! I always heard it had the largest aquifer in the U.S. which is what made it a good place to retire if just considering water concerns in the desert. I thought the only concern was that Vegas was trying to steal the water.

Lizzy. . .this is most interesting. . .the only think i knew about Pahrump Nevada is that it was Art’s hometown
and just recently heard that Michael Jackson also had a home there and was living there with his family large amount of time before his death. . .had wondered what Pahrump was like. . .

Do you know how Pahrump got it’s name?

Why did your connection move there?

I watched a really neat documentary about the Armagosa Opera House and thought the woman was truly an unique soul. . .and also there was a little coffee shop and Ma and Pa restaurant called The Ali Inn, or something like that. . . . people come from all over the world to see UFO’s. . .the legend of Pahrump must be greater than the actuality. . .

Yes I forgot to mention Art Bell lives in Pahrump I have never met him though just the nice folks at OUT THERE TV. Kate was a lifesaver of positiveness and sanity…I would go to their shop as a refuge when things were looking down but I think they are now in California. Heres a link to the Michael Jackson rumor…I had not heard of it before. I ran into Joe Jackson at a Wal-greens in Vegas. The person I was with is the one that recognized him and went all gaga….I confess that I can no longer listen to Michael Jackson. I have a weird meter and once you cross the line that’s it. I’m with Cher and Joan Rivers on this one…would you let your 7 year old stay the night at Michael Jacksons? That is how he should be viewed. The celebrity stuff is inconsequential at this point. Paul McCartney recently made the list with his debacle and the divorce….I need to write a post on that. Its not an official boycott….the music has lost its magic and when I hear it I just change the channel! oops heres the link http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/jun/23/pahrump-pop-kings-refuge/

Yes I watched the documentary too. I have her book autographed!! I don’t mind the UFO crazies!!

Pahrump is Ute for water flowing out of rock….here is another link that should be included in the main article….Pahrump is the town that made English the official language and then began targeting Mexicans…it was awful. They were confronting Spanish speaking citizens and defacing their businesses. When will these so called Americans wake up and realize as Thom Hartmann says WE DON’T HAVE AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION PROBLEM WE HAVE AN ILLEGAL EMPLOYER PROBLEM!!! http://illinois.edu/db/view/25/978?count=1&ACTION=DIALOG&sort=asc

Lizzy after Michael died, Art was on from the Philippines and he said Michael had lived at Pahrump for a number of years, and that he never would tell anyone about it while Michael was living because he understood the importance of privacy. . .

I dont think Art would of talked about it unless it was true. . .

Lizzy why are people drawn to go to Pahrump?

I think “bob” has been drinking from the aquifer. Maybe the meth has leached into it or something. Jeez.

    Pahrump? No thanks.

Well little bird I wouldn’t say that Art is a liar…but Pahrump is a small community…not saying that it couldn’t be possible if he was on the outskirts of town in no mans land the kind of place where if you turn in someones driveway ignoring the NO TRESSPASSING signs….you WILL be shot at… apparently some of the mail carriers are afraid but its not like there are any big houses out there. Just for security sake if something was built that could accommodate Michael Jackson someone would have talked. People know when Brad Pitt visits the whorehouses. I haven’t heard of the police investigating his death in Pahrump. Pahrump has a huge meth problem…lots of breakins and shootings….so does Vegas but the sort of places that are safe are noticeable…I can’t believe he would let his children live there. What would they do? They wouldn’t be able to play outside….its 120 degrees in the summer and kids do play outside but at the park or something…if he had a yard that was that big people would notice. It’s the desert there aren’t a lot of lawns….Its stickery tumbleweeks, and ugly dead buffalo? grass. The kind of grass that makes dogs go to the vet all the time. The seeds get caught in the ears and paws and cause all sorts of problems. In Vegas there are places to shop Art Bell keeps a low profile as does Joe Richards who is friendly with Art…he named his Kingdom strip club after Art Bell’s slogan THE KINGDOM OF NYE COUNTY from his radio show. I wouldn’t be shocked to hear his family had a place in Pahrump but Michael. They would have to be complete hermits. I also don’t think his private jet would go unnoticed even at the private airports the brothels own.

As far as moving to Pahrump? Las Vegas is expensive and crowded first off and many have moved to Pahrump because it has a huge aquifier under it. Las Vegas has no water they ran out a long time ago. They steal water from farmers in eastern Nevada and from the Colorado river…..don’t even get me started on that nonsense. There is always a chance that Vegas will get Pahrumps water…but as a previous person commented Pahrump hasn’t bothered to find out how much water is in the aquifer and now they are building a prison which will take a tremendous amount of water. Nevada has no state taxes so many people want to retire there then there are those who have arthritis who swear by the dry heat…although it freezes in the winter. Then there were huge construction companies who touted Pahrump as the NEXT retirement community….get in early the land is going to skyrocket!!! The houses were pieces of shit and it is difficult to sue a contractor in the state of Nevada and if you do sue a contractor and lose I think you have to pay their court costs…or libel…I don’t remember the details…One of the biggest contractors of course sold the houses…filed bankruptcy and then opened up in another name. No recourse for homeowners .

Oh and just in case anyone else is reading this…the town is at the low part of an old ocean bed….in a 500 YEAR FLOODPLAIN …IT HAS BEEN OVER 500 YEARS SINCE IT LAST FLOODED AND THEY HAVE BUILT NO CANALS TO CARRY THE WATER AWAY…WHEN IT RAINS IT FLOODS AND IF YOU THINK IT IS SAFER TO BUILD HIGHER NEXT TO THE MOUNTAINS….THE BOULDERS COME DOWN….IT’S THE DESERT EVEN IF YOU CAN’T SEE IT RAINING IF IT IS RAINING OVER THE MOUNTAINS THAT SURROUND PAHRUMP….IT FLOODS!!! I don’t mean to sound like an alarmist but if you saw the place you would just say WTF?? Its not like Armagosa, Shoshone or Beatty…where the people who live there love the desert and know how to live in it….they like the solitude… its a town with a lot of retirees and school children not really equipped to survive in the desert should any natural disaster no matter how minor occur. These aren’t all outdoor nature loving people…some are but not the majority….they stay indoors or go to the casinos. Death Valley is a huge tourist attraction and most people come in the winter when the desert isn’t so harsh…except for the Germans they come in the hottest part of the summer!! Like I said I don’t mean to sound like an alarmist….but I cannot stress how dangerous the desert is.

    part 2
    http://paulkroll.blogspot.com/2008/10/death-valley-experience.html

Another thing I just thought of about the Michael Jackson thing….if he tried to change his property in any significant way….people would become aware of it because before you can touch your soil your property has to be inspected for desert tortoises. Protected species. There is no such thing as a secret in Pahrump.

Well Bob is more than a bit racist against Native Americans….I don’t mind it when he tells me to fuck myself but I delete the racist stuff. Yeah I feel like I have saved one person already!!! Two counting Eugene!!

    September 14, 2009 at 12:21 am

  16. Oh, for goodness sakes. What a bunch of sensationalistic hyperbole.

“Oh my, Art Bell lives in Pahrump!”

“Oh my, it’s hot in Pahrump in the summer!”

“Oh my, it’s cold in Pahrump, in the winter!”

“Oh my, there’s a brothel there, and some guy runs it…and he owns a newspaper, too!”

“Oh my, politicians are corrupt there!” (Geesh, where else have you lived over the past 30 years. Fairyland?)

“Oh my, they have an adult bookstore there!” (Gimmee a break!)

“Oh my, they don’t have the same kind of social services there that you’d find in the People’s Republic of Oregon!” (Haven’t you ever heard of personal responsibility and rugged individualism?)

Don’t you have a single, insightful thing to say about Pahrump?

Pahrump is different. I’ll give you that. It’s REAL different. But it’s not the hellhole you make it out to be. Unless of course you’re a wussy little city boy who needs everybody to provide a “social safety net” for you.

Well another fine example of someone living in Pahrump!! Not great reading comprehension! Or apparently he didn’t read the post….

Oh my I do like Art Bell

Oh my I love the heat just a warning for people who don’t know how to survive in the heat and also a warning for those who can’t afford a 400 dollar electricity bill . I love the heat so much the only time I turned the air conditioning on in my car is when I had an elderly person in my car…..TOUGH ENOUGH TO NOT USE AIR CONDITIONING….and I’m a girl….bet you do though!!!!

Oh my for those of you who are retiring to the desert because you love the heat it DOES FREEZE in the winter. What’s your problem with that statement?

Oh my yeah I’m against the selling and purchase of women like pigs….do you have a daughter?? a sister?? a mother?? btw if you HAD read the post you would have known I am a pseudo fan of Joe Richards and recommend subscribing to his newspaper!

Oh my you like corrupt politicians??? well birds of a feather…..

Oh my like I said I have nothing against the adult bookstore but merely the fact that it is the biggest book store!…but apparently you wouldn’t understand THAT!

Oh my I think that ANYONE who is moving to Pahrump for the sole purpose of retirement needs to take that into the utmost consideration. Once again if you have actually read and comprehended this post I said Pahrump is great if you are fairly young…like the heat…independently wealthy or guaranteed a good job…and enjoy the outdoors. Death Valley is amazing!!

And you have a single insight other than a bunch of ass kissing??? Hmmmm….are you in real estate perhaps?? Did you see your portfolio take a dive….try reading Barry Ritholtz at THE BIG PICTURE or look up Noriel Rubini….Nevada will be one of the last places to recover…

I do greatly appreciate your comment though it reminds me that I really need to keep up with the goings on in Pahrump….save the elderly people the anguish of mistakenly retiring in Pahrump.

One more thing curious that you dislike the faction who is anti government control the libertarians in Pahrump yet you claim people should be personally responsible and then you kiss the ass of politicians…criticize the great state of Oregon for being way more fiscally responsible than Nevada…hmmmm is that your real name?

There are some super deals on homes in Pahrump since the collapse of the housing market. Seems like many of these “bargain” homes have issues though, as there is bad soil and subsidence in the area and you never know when you foundation might crack into pieces and fall into the aquifer. (just kidding… i think) Anyway there is no easy answer for the retiree: most of the nice places are very expensive and who can afford to live in California or even Oregon anymore? I have also considered Alturas and Klamath but it’s just too cold there.

I was hoping it would have more links than the prison!! But the prison link is right on….government services should never be run by corporations….funny how when it comes to insurance the less people served or denied is more profitable and when it comes to prison the more people are serviced by the corporation the more money they make. Its all about profit and greed….

Thank you so much for putting this out there!!!! You have no idea how much I wish this was posted before we moved here…..I researched the best I could from back east, I asked questions on every aspect..especially education and predators..well, everyone out here covers one thing or another thing up!! The schools teach to the test, they suppress any creative minds, the first they Nevada does when the can’t pay back whomever they borrowed from is steal from our children….They have child predators and sex offenders on every corner, sure they have strict laws on these offenses, but they can catch these pigs!!! They come here to hide and carry on with their lifestyle. one more big Pahrump lie…THE FRICKEN WIND, better cement all of your outdoor decor in the ground, which will eventually shift and blow away anyway….So, needless to say after sinking our lives savings into Pahrump, (just to survive) we are leaving the house to blow away and will watch Pahrump become Nevada’s next ghost town, from the East coast. Maybe we will come visit it then, cause I love a good ghost town!

I’m so sorry….but glad you are moving out. I never thought to put up a post until one day I put up some nice pictures of the desert and sunsets…but at wordpress I can see what people entered into google search to get to my blog and someone put “living in Pahrump”. OH NO! I thought I have to put up a post to save people the type of agony others have suffered!! At least if you search “retiring” or “living” in Pahrump my post is on the first page. I wrote it about two years ago but every once in awhile I add more and repost it. It may be time to update again.

As far as becoming a ghost town…not so sure….I think tweaker town is more likely. I hear robberies are becoming a daily occurrence.

Best wishes and good luck with your move!!!

Thanks for keeping up on your blog, I know I will continue to read, just to keep posted and I have shared this with all of my email buddies..most Pahrumpians get so offended instead of opening their eyes. Anyway, Just wanted to say thank you one more time and hope people heed your knowledge and advice..

    Thank You Samantha…
Yes there are many in Pahrump who are quite offended….mostly people who are in real estate or who stand to profit on the foundation of lies being told to senior citizens about Pahrump being a nice place to retire….and I guess for those who are looking for a nice place to raise a family!
If you have any more info or or know of links I should add please let me know I will be happy to email you privately if you are worried about being threatened.

    Have a good weekend!

Good morning. I know this blog is supposed to be aimed at retiring seniors, but I feel it is only one woman’s tally and not enough information is posted about the benefits of retiring in Pahrump. ( E.T.- SO…YOU ARE NOT RETIRED BUT YOUNGER WITH A FAMILY YOU ARE RAISING. I ASSUME THAT YOU OR YOUR SPOUSE HAVE GOOD EMPLOYMENT?) It matters a great deal just what kind of retirement you are looking for. If it is a money thing then know this: the total cost of living here (all things considered) is far less than just about anywhere in California, Las Vegas, Overton, or Logandale for a compatible lifestyle. (E.T.- THE TOTAL COST OF LIVING MEANS NOTHING IF YOU LOSE IT ALL DURING AN EMERGENCY) I have researched this extensively. ( E.T.:YOUR COMMENTS INDICATE THAT YOU HAVE RESEARCHED NOTHING AND HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY EMERGENCY….WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU ASKED THE POLICE FOR HELP? HAD AN EMERGENCY THAT THE “HOSPITAL” COULD NOT HANDLE…HAVING A FEW BEDS DOES NOT MAKE FOR A HOSPITAL THAT CAN DEAL WITH REAL TRAUMATIC LIFE SAVING SITUATIONS….IT IS AN IMPROVEMENT FOR THINGS LIKE….THE FLU.) Is it a weather thing? Please read on I get to that in a minute. Is it for friendship? Plenty of opportunities for that here. Medical? We do have a nice new hospital and we have used there services already – I was gleefully impressed. (E.T.-GLEEFULLY IMPRESSED??) I am not elderly, but I know plenty of people that are. Happy people. I have lived in Pahrump for going on 9 years now. I am involved in the community, live in central Pahrump, and enjoy the great outdoors tremendously. I am not entirely thrilled with “everything” about the town BUT I must tell you it has provided my family and I with a decent life thus far. (E.T.- CONGRATULATIONS…BUT YOU MIGHT WANT TO REMEMBER THE “THUS FAR” PART.) My kids, ages 8-19 excel here. Good grades, lots of friends and play sports. With this being a small town they often get to be in the newspaper (Pahrump Valley Times, which is my preference rather than the Mirror) and boy is that a thrill for them to see themselves in a newspaper! For a rural, desert town it does us just fine. We are doing our best to ensure that our children have a quality life and Pahrump has given us that so far. ( E.T.-ONCE AGAIN THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A QUALITY LIFE IS SLIM IN A TOWN WITH AN UPWARD OF 13% UNEMPLOYMENT AND LESS THAN 1% MAKE 150,00 AND OVER…OH AND BY THE WAY JOBS HAVE DECREASED 42% IN THE LAST TWO YEARS!!!) We spent four years in Las Vegas’ crowded communities,( E.T.-WOULDN’T LIVE THERE EITHER!!) then we decided it would be worth it for us to get our family away from the city and with 4 boys we could really use some land for them to move around on, so we found a nice house on an acre for a decent price (more for less compared to Las Vegas) and moved to Pahrump. We bought 2 horses,(YOU HAVE TWO HORSES ON ONE ACRE?? YOU WOULDN’T BE ALLOWED TO ADOPT HORSES FROM THE ASPC IN MOST AREAS THEY WOULD REQUIRE YOU TO HAVE A WHOLE ACRE WITH LUSH GREEN GRASS… I HOPE YOU HAVE A NICE BARN FOR THEM TO GET OUT OF THE 120 DEGREE WEATHER!!) some ducks and chickens and adopted 2 dogs from the pound. Our boys have the responsibility of caring for the animals and have learned a great deal through the experience. We like it here. I often ask my children if they would like to move and they say “No way!” They tell me they think Pahrump is great. We travel ALOT so our children have experienced many different areas of the U.S. and still they love it in Pahrump, Nevada. We think it is just fine here. Sure there are more beautiful places out there. Sure there are places that provide better paying jobs, but in the big picture for this family of six, things are good. We commute for work, but so do millions of people living in cities. We have some crummy, un-kept residences here in town, but go back east or anywhere for that matter, they are everywhere! Perhaps the difference is the scummy places simply are not camouflaged by trees and shrubs because this is a desert. ( E.T.-I’M NOT BIASED ABOUT UNKEMPT HOUSES FOR THE MOST PART. I AM BIASED ABOUT TOWNS WITH NO STANDARDS FOR WHAT THEIR BUSINESSES LOOK LIKE.) I’ve learned that many elderly people live here and can not upkeep their homes very well because they are physically unable. We try to help when we can. Please note there are also really nice areas of Pahrump, with great big houses and enormous tidy properties. (E.T.-WHO CARES?) Many people find plenty to love about this town. It does have awesome sunsets. It does have many clear, beautiful nights perfect for star gazing. The weather for the most part is fantastic. HOT summers sure,( E.T.-110-120 DEGREES…MOST PEOPLE STAY INDOORS WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING) but the days in the winters are mostly sweatshirt or even t-shirt weather. The majority of the year is great. I talk to people scattered all over the U.S. and more often than not I feel fortunate for the weather we’ve got in comparison. Sure we have “bad” people here – There is no place that exists without them – Darn it. (DARN IS THE SAME AS CURSING IN MY BOOK…THE INTENT IS THE SAME. GOD KNOWS WHAT YOU ARE UP TO!!) I look at http://www.familywatchdog.com often to keep up on known sex offenders in the area. (GOOD IDEA!!) I compared it with many other various towns in the U.S. and realized this was not only a Pahrump problem, but an entire country problem. Same with drugs and prostitution. Pahrump has brothels and they are kept on the outskirts of the town, not in the town. I would prefer if they did not exist but prostitution happens “everywhere” like it or not, in a designated building or not. I take every opportunity to explain to our children that it is wrong. Find me a town that does not have any issues – good luck. This town is what you make of it. We have made it good. Our 1,000 square foot vegetable garden is growing:) (E.T. WOW THE HORSES HAVE EVEN LESS SPACE THAN I THOUGHT! YOU SHOULD RECONSIDER THAT ONE!) We go exploring on the backside of Mt. Charleston (20 minutes to the mountains from our house), and we have even seen elk up there before! We have Little League baseball games tomorrow night. I intend to go and visit my grandmother in Las Vegas this Saturday as I try to do every week. There are many things in this blog re: Pahrump that I can agree with and many more that I do not. I do not see this as a negative place, that is because we choose to make it positive. We happily call Pahrump, Nevada our home and invite anyone to come and see for themselves before making a judgement based on one woman’s opinion. Please remember there are always two sides to every story. One woman hates it and one loves it. Well, perhaps people more like us will love it also….?

P.S. A tip for you Elizabeth: When you “cuss”(E.T.- LIKE I SAID GOD KNOWS WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART AND MIND WHEN WHEN YOU REPLACE DAMN WITH DARN…I PERSONALLY BELIEVE HYPOCRISY IS THE GREATER CRIME!) in your blog you open the door for others to do the same. (E.T-I DON’T GIVE A RATS ASS IF PEOPLE CUSS…AS YOU AND I DO….I LOVE THE RESPONSES…THE ONLY ONES I HAVE DELETED WERE RACIST COMMENTS ABOUT NATIVE AMERICANS…THERE IS ALSO A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GENERAL CURSING AND THOSE DIRECTED AT AN INDIVIDUAL.) If you think that placing a few “postitive” remarks about Pahrump through out your blog is going to diffuse all the extreme negativety you have it isn’t working and you are encouraging people to be negative to back to you. (E.T. I MEAN WHAT I SAY ABOUT THE POSITIVE REMARKS. AS I SAID SINCE YOU CHOOSE TO REMEMBER ONLY THE NEGATIVE….I WOULD RECOMMEND PAHRUMP TO THOSE WHO ARE INDEPENDENTLY WEALTHY, YOUNG, IN GOOD HEALTH, AND HAVE A LOVE OF THE OUTDOORS AND ROCK HOUNDING! /strong>)These few that responded poorly to your insults (E.T.- WHAT YOU CALL INSULTS I CALL THE TRUTH…THAT YOU GLOSS OVER THE PROBLEMS IN PAHRUMP, STICK YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND, SEE THE WORLD THROUGH ROSE COLORED GLASSES WHATEVER YOU CALL IT DOES NOT MAKE THE NEGATIVE DISAPPEAR. YOU SIMPLY HAVEN’T ENCOUNTERED IT YET. YOU ARE A TYPICAL AMERICAN THE PLIGHT OF THOSE LESS FORTUNATE DOES NOT CONCERN YOU….UNTIL YOU OR SOMEONE CLOSE TO YOU EXPERIENCES A SET BACK OR HARDSHIP YOU WILL CONTINUE TO BE LACKING IN COMPASSION.) to their town are not a good representation of the people here in Pahrump. Most people who respond to blogs are not the passive types – The passive majority usually just read the blogs and rarely respond (for example this is the first time I’ve ever blogged). Therefore it is not fair to say that these angry “few” represent the overall Pahrump perspective. Thank you for letting me give an alternative view on the place we call home. (E.T.- YOU ARE WELCOME!!)

Oh my!!! That was entertaining! I can’t believe you don’t have a picture of the Castle!!! I remember driving into town from Vegas one year and that lovely vision welcomed me to Pahrump! A fascinating place to visit… the DA is in jail now? I get all the government and elected criminals mixed up, there are so many!!!

Not a castle the KINGDOM GENTLEMAN’S CLUB…..bit of an oxymoron…gentlemen in that context….oh well. Yeah I hear the DA was arrested…twice in one day for drunk driving….they didn’t fire him at the time but recently the Sheriff did the job….finally…you can read more here…

Thank God for internet blogs, so you are a Pahrump basher, now that’s original. (E.T.mmmm not really…I quite like visiting…what I do is truth telling and by the way its my blog and if you read the rules for commenting on my blog you would know you can always get the hell off and GYOFB!!) I strive for a more positive view and along with others(E.T. Who??) we are attempting to slowly change the landscape of the town. The new pro business movement started this month(E.T. A whole month? Wow….) as the County Commissioners fired the planning director and the code enforcement officer.

Pahrump is located in a lovely valley and planned correctly can serve the recreational/vacation needs of Las Vegas “ The New World City(E.T. I used to live in Las Vegas…they call Pahrump DELIVERANCE) . Like it or not Las Vegas will have more than 6 million people within the next 25 years.( E.T. So….has Vegas solved its water problem?? Are you aware of ANY of the water problems Nevada faces?)The brothel owners are all ready planning for the day they will be denied renewed licenses, and as for the fireworks, well lets just say they are on there way out.

As the town starts to change with many more recreational opportunities(E.T. What recreation??? ATV’s in the desert?? Golf which uses up more water??) on the planning table and under construction,(E.T. Under construction?? What “recreational opportunities” are under construction?) the town will attract more people looking to raise a family (E.T. In how many years will be able to provide jobs for these people looking to raise a family….won’t be this year….or next!)or retire and take advantage of the new amenities.. Historically tourism is the leading employer in Nevada.

Recorded sales volume of homes in the valley has not changed in the last 5 years and stands at 55 homes sold last month. Based on sales volume people still like Pahrump. (E.T. And how much have those housing prices dropped?? Wow! LOOK AT THIS LINK….and see this INTERACTIVE CHART…especially like the foreclosure number vs.the existing homes vs. new homes!!! Apparently you don’t read the newspaper which printed THIS article in January.)

Most of your comments are unfounded and hearsay.(E.T…..No YOUR comments are COMPLETELY unfounded and hearsay…you have included no links to any of your OPINIONS… or WISHFUL THINKING or is it PIPE DREAMS? Please provide me with factual information disputing what you claim is unfounded and hearsay!) Meth is in EVERY CITY AND TOWN IN THE WORLD, if your are looking for trouble you can find it anywhere. (E.T. And your point is??? )

Please practice what you preach, parts of your blog sound as trashy as some of the reply’s you have received. All Cities and Towns have some foul mouth people. As for that lucky individual that you live with, well lets just say I hope they are perfect like you. (E.T. That’s me!! PERFECT!! As for the trashy part…you need to be more specific…exactly what part of my post is trashy??…think you must have mixed it up with TRUTHFUL…get a dictionary….words do have meaning.)

In regards to Sam‘s reply ( the only reply you said thank you to).(E.T. Not true but considering the rest of your comment no surprise there!! You excel at telling lies!! I have previuously thanked Bob for his insults…Daryl for telling me about the aquifer being depleted…Jeff for telling me to fuck off and Steve for sending me the Nye robberies link. I guess your reading comprehension isn’t all that good either….or you are just a pathological liar…making up what ever suits your next idiotic statement!!)She is a very sweet lady, but in my last conversation with her she is very home sick for her family back east so everything she sees in Pahrump has a problem. If I was you I would not hang my hat on her reply to gage your effectiveness to worn retirees to stay away from Pahrump, give it up, drop it.(E.T. Why would I drop it that particular post it is looked at every single day multiple times by multiple viewers. It is also the top post on Google when you search LIVING IN PAHRUMP and number five when searching RETIRING IN PAHRUMP. And exactly why would I take the advice of a proven liar? BTW I hang my hat on my own experiences and those of my friends who still live there. Funny how you ignored the others who commented on the post…singled out the one lady you knew. Hmmmm …WTF is your agenda??) Maybe you can direct your efforts toward a more useful project. (E.T.Perhaps you could take your own advice and stop telling lies….yep looked up pathological liars. This is what it had to say:Look for symptoms of pathological lying. Unlike normal lies, they rarely serve any tangible benefit except perhaps to impress others. They’re often grandiose, self-serving and extremely complex. They take place regularly (someone can tell the odd whopper or two once in a while without being a pathological liar) and they’re usually delivered with no concern about how they affect other people. WOW!)

Please do not reply within my reply as your readers may get confused (E.T. My readers are not stupid nor are they idiots and do not confuse easily….I think you can get help for that too!!)

    Good Luck

Hi Elizabeth. My wife and I will be able to retire in the near future and Pahrump is at the top of the list for places to live. That is until we came upon your blog! We have visited Pahrump and thought it looked a little rough around the edges but not as bad as you describe. We know now we must do more research. Do you have suggestions for places to retire? We liked the sunsets and the ruralness of Pahrump. We live in a city now and have no desire to do so once we retire. Thanks for your insights Mike

Sorry Mike I have been on vacation in Montana. That is my next destination to live! I’m not ready to retire….starting the second half of my life! Lots of hiking. Mike if you are at retirement age you and your wife should be thinking about what it is you are looking for…what you enjoy doing. Activities. How far do you want to be from your children? Will it be inconvenient for them to help you out if help is needed? I know nothing of your situation but I can assure you that Pahrump is much worse than the post I have up. I simply don’t have the time to keep updating it. Recently the state had to step in over a political power grab and reinstate the town structure….another lawsuit over voter fraud….the prison fiasco (county commissioners who profited).

Mike what doesn’t come out enough is that I actually love the surrounding area…. Death Valley…Armagosa…Beatty….Red Rock Canyon….Tonapah. I love hiking…..camping…but visiting once a year is enough to enjoy those things. I love coming back and smelling the Junipers…and then the pine. Something that is even more fragrant after being in the desert….

Pahrump is advertised as a retirement town but I can assure you that it is for very healthy people who can drive themselves to Las Vegas there is no bus for seniors to travel to Las Vegas…they tried it two years and couldn’t afford to keep it up. Its 67 miles to shop anywhere besides Wal-mart and Home Depot. You can always shop on the internet. The movie theater that they tried to start in a casino has shut down….so you have to go to Vegas for that too! I would really suggest that you do a worst case scenario….if you got into an accident or God forbid had a stroke or heart attack….you have to use lifeflight to get to a real hospital. The hospital in Pahrump that a previous person commented about is for people with the flu….pneumonia…I cannot emphasize enough the bad air quality in Pahrump. You need a healthy set of lungs. The dirt is very fine…not sand. The epa is always giving out warnings. I have personally never seen so many people on oxygen tanks…

I would take into consideration if this will be your final house…or a semi-retirement. If you are in great health and don’t care about politics….love the outdoors more than you do shopping….don’t mind the over 100 degrees in the summer….freezing in winter…..love casinos as the basically only social activity…If you are a rock hound or want to join the gold club…depending on where you live it is not safe to take long walks or go running….dogs. Look at the money you will save on income tax vs. the money paid out in electricity(I recommend swamp cooler)…internet access. I don’t think they have cable or in very few places….water rights. If the town goes to a sewer system….you will have to pay for that. Get an outside of Nevada house inspector before you purchase. Sink holes have been a problem. And apparently one such inspector stated that the safest house in Pahrump is one that paid to have beams sunk another 40 feet under their existing foundation….at a huge cost. I don’t think they have yet tested how much ground water is available and/or how fast it is being depleted. The prison will be using a huge amount.

Also look at how the state you decide to retire in manages their money. Nevada is not very fiscally responsible….much like California. Look at how the community developed. Consider the reason for the town. Pahrump was built for money alone. The land owners hold tight to their property for greed vs. good of the community. The amount it costs to open a business in Pahrump is why it is so undeveloped. People want top dollar. I live in Medford, OR with almost the same amount of people…two hospitals….tons of health care specialty places. An infrastructure for the elderly lots of housing for all income levels…services….busline to shopping…movies…theater(symphony, plays, etc)…tons of parks…trees flowers. Not really suggesting Medford, I’m planning on moving in the coming year. But since I have been hit with the subject with a parent and have been thinking of my own future….I would want to live near a town that had a similar set up. Places to eat…book stores….flowers…trees….lots of trails for nearby hiking…vineyards…..But retirement??? New Mexico….Oregon or Montana!

As always I suggest renting a year before buying!

    Good Luck!!!

“My personal thoughts on prostitution are scattered through out this post…another personal opinion of mine surrounds the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS who have spent who knows how much money against gays but who has built an empire off of peoples addictions, SEX, GAMBLING and ALCOHOL. For those of you who do not know the second highest concentration of Mormons is Las Vegas…if the church were true to its teachings every single person who works for or runs a casino, serves alcohol would be excommunicated or at least deemed not worthy of Temple….nor would the church accept their tithing from these people…but as we all know churches are corrupt and will take blood money anyway they can get it….IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST no less!!”

WOW your screen name is elizabethtool and that is exactly what you are is a TOOL!! ( E.T. a TOOL for what?? My own personal opinions?? Experiences? You obviously are trying to use the alternative meaning of a word that you don’t really get. Completely missed the target….or as my Dad would have said “Your talking out your ass!” Your parents must be proud of you making fun of someones name. What a good Mormon you are….I’m sure your behavior is that which your prophet teaches! )My family has been in Pahrump for more than 50 years and they all do very well for their selves and families financially. (E.T. What is your point?? Since your family does well that must mean that those who are unemployed are….??? Not to be acknowledged? Love to hear what your church has taught you…Since ONLY YOUR EXPERIENCES ARE WHAT COUNT! It should be duly noted that I offer a few examples of people who might enjoy living in Pahrump….but I guess you decided to comment before you actually read the post…or maybe your reading comprehension isn’t so good….) All without college degrees by the way, and have careers that they started in Pahrump. (E.T. Once again what is your point??? Since one family had careers that started in Pahrump…well golleeey it must be the same as it was 50 years ago.) There is more to Pahrump than this person is explaining.(E.T. If you want to address the general readers….GYOFB!) I have great memories of coming back for the summers,(E.T. Summers are great! Love Death Valley!!) since I did move away when I was 8, but moved back when I was 18. This is a great family town (E.T. I have to dispute that…where I live a population of 77,000 we have over 30 parks, 2 hospitals which can treat emergencies and even an international airport! We do have an unemployment rate of 12.12 % But compare that with Pahrump which has a population of 43,000 an unemployment rate of 16.7 % a hospital that can’t treat most emergencies…oh and four parks…Damn! Does Pahrump have more whore houses than parks? Very family oriented! Oh but you do have a brand new prison in town!)of course there are drug problems as our town grows so does the variety of people, there is nothing anyone can do to avoid that. Name me a town or city in the U.S. that is completely drug free.(E.T. The better figure that you could have provided would have been what the percentage of drug related crimes your town suffers….but like most people of your ilk…YOU CAN’T PROVIDE A SINGLE FACT TO SUPPORT ANY OF YOUR CLAIMS! But here you go folks…ripped from the headlines LOCAL FATHER AND SON ARRESTED FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING That must have been what you meant by “family town”! Oh but wait here is another more recent headline DISTRICT ATTORNEY CHARGED WITH EMBEZZLEMENT now that is a link to Fox 5 news just in case you think I only use THE MIRROR as my sources. Oh and what a family man he is not only was he arrested for embezzling but he has previous arrests for drunk driving. WHAT A FAMILY TOWN! The son of a bitch wrecks twice in six hours due to drunk driving and he is still the towns DA…got off with a 1,700 dollar fine!! I love your idea of a family town. A decent town would not tolerate this type of behavior . But I suspect that your moral compass is way off….if it was ever on to begin with!)You can’t because there aren’t any. If you are a city person you are not going to enjoy Pahrump because it does have the small town feel. (E.T. SMALL TOWN FROM HELL MAYBE) Everyone waves to you (E.T. where? in your driveway??) and everyone is friendly at least everyone I have dealt with. Maybe you are the one being a tool(E.T. Once again you have no idea the meaning of the word “tool” or how it is referenced in the nefarious way you intend.)so you get the same attitude or respect that you give out? (E.T. Who are you calling the kettle black? DID YOU LEARN YOUR MANNERS FROM YOUR PARENTS OR YOUR PROPHET? ) Who knows certainly not me? (E.T. CORRECT you don’t seem to know too much…)There is prostitution and strip clubs but growing up there I wasn’t even the slightest bit affected by them. I think it is all in how you raise your family if you are a person dwelling on it and affected by it yourself then your children will most likely be affected too. I love this town and yes it is not perfect but names a place that is every city or town has its bad neighborhoods but that doesn’t mean the town is horrible. I am Mormon as well and as for what you are saying about how we will get rich off anyone or anything because we are greedy and we compromise our morals. LOL. That is so funny because no we should not drink, smoke, gamble, or do drugs.(NO YOU JUST LEAVE COMMENTS ON PEOPLES BLOGS MAKING FUN OF THEIR NAMES. WHAT A GOOD MORMON YOU ARE….WHO IS YOUR STAKE PRESIDENT??) Everyone deserves forgiveness and you even said it yourself in this economy if the only job you can get is working in a casino because there are 3 well developed casinos in Pahrump then that is what you have to do to support you and your family so you still pay your tiding with money that you earned from your JOB at a casino, so what, it is employment and in this day and age who can blame or criticize anyone for working?(E.T. THANK YOU FOR CONFIRMING YOUR LACK OF FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST…YOU SEE I ACTUALLY WALK THE WALK….NEVER WHORED MY MORALS OUT FOR A FEW DOLLARS AS YOU APPARENTLY DO. REPENT YOU SINNER! Seriously did your church teach you that?? I was Mormon for a whole year and it helped me in life tremendously and while I disagree with much of the ideology….the important underlying message of having faith in GOD…the church I went to was filled with people who genuinely tried…they didn’t fold under and the first test and sell people alcohol or cigarettes….make money off of gambling. The Church of Latter Day Saints has certainly lost its moral compass at least in Nevada.) Mormon people are great people that will help out anyone in need even if they are not a part of the church, and if you knew anything about anything then you wouldn’t criticize them, but we are use to it most people like to criticize us for many other things such as 9 wives and blah blah blah I won’t even dignify that with a response. As for you though, I think you have brought A FEW valid points but just because you don’t like our town you don’t know the true family, home feeling I get when I drive over that hill. Just keep your comments to yourself (E.T. NO THIS IS MY BLOG. YOU KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF OR GYOFB IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT.)because there are problems in every town but it doesn’t make a bad town because of this it is still and always will be my home. It is to bad you are to negative to realize this but I wish you the best in whatever town you are in now at least your negative attitude is no longer with us in PAHRUMP. (E.T. First you call me a tool then you wish me the best…what sort of immoral hypocrite did your mother raise?? Wonderful family values in Pahrump! OH AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STAY IN PAHRUMP.)

Honestly what is your goal leaving a comment? ooooh someone told the truth about my home town warning elderly people to think twice because there is a lot of crime….no hospital….and not a lot of things for elderly people to do….Hmmm…I think I’ll say the opposite out of stupidity or greed …..take your pick I think both apply. I live in Medford, OR and people in Ashland a much more liberal and EXPENSIVE town always make it a point to disparage Medford. Who cares?? Seriously people look up some FACTS about where you are planning on retiring. Retiring should be so much more than worrying about how much taxes you will have to pay. I personally think it would include access to great health care, a good variety of places to eat, shop, movies, parks, places to enjoy a walk….a bus service. Retired people in general don’t want to have to drive 60 miles to shop someplace other than Wal-mart or go to the movies.

And Stacey where do you draw the line?….when does your moral compass kick in? Yes everyone deserves forgiveness but most drug dealers and prostitutes are in it out of desperation mentally and perhaps physically addicted. They made a wrong decision at the time….a lack of faith in a God that they believe has abandoned them causes them to turn away. What is particularly disturbing to me is that you have taken the forgiveness of God and with a calculated twist used his gifts to justify your pursuit of greed and debauchery. “But God forgives so its ok to molest those little children..” Once again how far off is your moral compass? The lowest of the low in my opinion are those who make a dollar off of others addictions or who abuse those who are unable to defend themselves. Funny how in my 45 years I have never had to resort to a career which participates in the downfall of others….Not even when I lived in Nevada.

Luke 12:22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

  39. Stacy not Stacey(as elizabeth states, but I am the one who is to stupid and cannot read as she says.

What are you even talking about nothing you said replying to my message makes any sense. You’re talking about my moral compass which you clearly did not understand the point I was making. I said god forgives. I never said anything about molesting children or even prostitution. I said he forgives. I don’t even know anyone who belongs to my church that works for the casinos or that prostitutes and definitely no one who is molesting children! Your ideas are so far fetched. You have this blog because you want to hear yourself speak and you want people to believe your beliefs. I do love my town and it is a family town. Once again it is all in the way you are raised. As for you speaking negatively about my parents and the way I was raised that shows just how low you are as a person so is your moral compass off? With all the negative lights you have shown on my town I still have a very close tight knit family and am a very family oriented person so I know my parents took a right turn somewhere. As I said before I was never affected by the “whore houses” yes they are there but as I said unless you are a negative person dwelling on the idea then you will not get passed that. This is not all Pahrump offers. I was always outside as a kid my siblings and I had plenty of space to play and we never were bored as we were in the city. There is much more to worry about in a big city than a small neighborhood in Pahrump where we know nearly everyone and they are all friendly! You are going to have your views and I will have mine and yes in my opinion you are a “tool” Take it anyway you choose to. You are very defensive, bitter and come across with a great deal of attitude I wished you the best at the end because this is me. I wish everyone the best. I was trying to open your views a slight bit, but you’re obviously a close minded person who has their opinion and is going to stick to it no matter how wrong it is! Don’t try and offend me or my morals please you said you are 45 years old act that way. My faith and morals are just fine as for yours that is questionable I hardly believe you where ever once Mormon. Maybe you took a trial run but you are hardly what I believe as Mormon. As for my “behavior” I am just speaking the truth you do act like a “tool” and I am sure my church would agree. You never once said anything positive about our town or even our church or the people in our town. You grouped us all together as being rude, drug using prostitutes. So I just chose to defend our town and our church don’t speak on things you don’t fully comprehend. You’re quoting articles I am speaking from actual experience from years of living here. I would just advise you to know what you’re talking about. I know your going to say I do have experience living there and all of it was bad. When you have put out negativity that is what you get in return! My question to that is how long did you live here? I believe you are just a negative person who claims to be warning people about this town when really you probably just have nothing else to do but write these blog’s. Question, my morals are off in your opinion, but how do you figure this? Also how do I whore my morals out? You never said anything to back this up. It was just thrown in. As to your reference that my opinion is the only one that counts. I never stated this I am giving the other side of the story that you are leaving out. My family does do well in this town and it is from hard work and dedication. There are opportunities to do well in this town not only working in a “whore house” or a casino. Once again good luck to you in your new town can’t wait to see that blog. LOL.

Oh and why do you come to visit? If Pahrump is so horrible then why don’t you stay in Montana or Oregon. We will be just fine without your negativity in our town and I will stay in Pahrump. I have no plans of leaving.

Stacy, Tthank you for the comments and for admitting that your reading comprehension is such that you don’t understand my reply….those contemplating moving to Pahrump need to hear from the type of people that will be their neighbors! Correct your only 22? btw when you call someone a tool you are saying that they are allowing themselves to be used…someone who is easily manipulated. Out of the two of us that would be YOU!

Thank you for not responding to pretty much everything I stated in my post. This is because you are a negative and aggressive person.(E.T. Huh?? So not responding is negative and aggressive? A bit of projection going on??) I don’t know what you are saying by “22” are you meaning my age? I am actually 45 and I don’t know where you are coming up with numbers. My post was never meant to turn into an argument but as I said you are very aggressive so of course you took it that way.(E.T. So you start off by insulting me and making fun of my last name…and this was not argumentative??) I never admitted to being ignorant and not being able to comprehend.(E.T. MMMM…yeah you do….every time you leave a comment!) I said that you do not make any sense when you speak/write. I am just glad our town has gotten rid of you and now it is some place else that has to deal with you. We here in Pahrump will continue to enjoy the town in which we live. It is a great place and I enjoy waking up here every morning. So, to those of you considering Pahrump now you can get a positive point of view, from someone who has actually lived here basically their entire life not just some random visitor who decides she’s going to save everyone from Pahrump, because I guess in her eyes her opinion is that powerful. (E.T. good example of your reading comprehension…my post is meant to warn those who are contemplating a move to Pahrump to take a second look and make an informed choice….I have clearly stated in the post that Pahrump would be a great place to live for some. Stacey you are turning into an asshat troll. If the next comment you leave is more of your asshat troll drivel instead of links that include factual information as to why Pahrump is a good choice for living and retiring for instance what kind of jobs, mental health services, statistics of how fast the aquifer is being deleted, things any sane person would be interested in when contemplating a move…it will be deleted. No more of your juvenile…its really really great…take my word for it!! Or do as I suggest in my RULES FOR COMMENTING ON MY BLOG. GYOFB. By the way Stacy do you know what a statcounter is or does?)

You are welcome. THANK YOU for your comment. I get upset and tend to rant when people say inane things…and as my mother says I curse like a sailor but have a kind heart! I do know people that enjoy Pahrump..rockhounds and a photographer. In my opinion most of the people I have met who have retired there regret it. Some unwilling to admit they made a mistake will defend their decision…for various reasons one being pride and another wanting to be able to sell their house for a profit to some unsuspecting future retiree! Some just can’t afford to pack up and leave again…their money is tied up in a housing market that is stagnant. There are people who have lived all of their lives and are Latter Day Saints they have a certain lifestyle they have lived and belong to a community….those elderly people thrive in Pahrump. Most do not.

    September 11, 2010 at 9:15 am

  48. pahrump is the only place in the entire u.s.a where consenting sex between agreeing persons is leagalized…imagine that THE ONLY place in u.s.a where sex between agreeing persons. is tolerated…do you know what that means? you can have sex without a relationship..without arguing…bullshit …nonsense..commitment..etc…it may not be perfect ..but it represents..choice..freedom..and it makes women safer..i as a u.s citizen would want to be close to pahrump because of this oppertunity..i also enjoy the desert..it would be best for the government to run red lights. in pahrump so the women could work independently…the prices would be cheaper. build a replica of “the wallen” with a overland monarail to vegas..then you open up the tourism to incredable levels and prosperity for the community.. different places provide different oppertunities for different people..good luck..p.s iv never been to pahrump ..

    September 20, 2010 at 2:18 am

  49. sorry..my last post…the first 2 statements were in regards to $$.pahrump is the only place in the u.s.a where agreeing people can have sex for cash leagally. that in itself says loads for pahrump!

They could start building the Disney of sex! Maybe they can buy Loveland displays at basement prices

We don’t agree on prostitution but my Catholic Mother would. We were having this this same conversation and it was getting heated she was in the middle of a rant about how much better it is for women…I finally interrupted her and said.” Fine! Since you are so approving of this line of work I’m going to make a career change and I’ll be making a hell of a lot more money than I am now!” Her jaw dropped, face went through about 10 different expressions in less than three seconds, and then the jaw snapped shut again. I still laugh when I think about it…ok for someone else’s daughter but not her own!

Joy don’t pretend that you have read this post if you had you would know several things the first being why I don’t like Pahrump. You would know that I love visiting the desert especially Death Valley, Armagosa, the China Ranch Date Farm…Shoshone…

Why would you worry about “when winter hits back home..” You no longer live in Wisconsin. People have been surviving in cold climates for thousands of years.

I have not disputed that there is crime in every state. Why would anyone “freak out” when you remodeled?

Have I ever said Pahrump is limited on how much water individuals can use? No. If you had bothered to read the links I provided you would know that water use in Pahrump is of great concern.

If you had read the comments you would know why I write between the lines it saves me time replying to inane comments. Yours is only bordering on the inane. Your passive aggressive comments suggest that you live a life of deception mostly to yourself…I suspect most others can detect your deception. This could be your lack of education. In this “small post” you have misspelled see, a lot, polite, tear, recession, apologize, we’re . I suspect that you also have a low reading comprehension and are unable to follow the post and comments.

Can you be more specific on your comment “how special different services have helped my family”? That is a vague statement. I offer specifics in my post. That is the typical of people who leave comments defending Pahrump. They cannot offer specifics. Like a cheerleaders at a football game…they repeat cheers over and over how great their team is meanwhile they have no concept of how the game is played.

“Curious where you live now…” Joy this is how many times you have been on my blog this morning

“Pahrump is safer than many towns.” Another vague statement. Compared to what towns? In the world? Other towns in the U.S.? Nevada? Please specify with comparisons and links.

interesting times. Now look who needs to get on enjoying life! Try looking at a different page..I suspect most of your life is spent dwelling on the same thing over and over and over.

I do not need to apologize for my comments about Pahrump…as you do not need to apologize to me for defending (as vague as it is) Pahrump.

“the sun is shining,….” interesting considering the time of day you wrote this comment. I wish you would elaborate on that statement.

Well.. about 99% of his post is incorrect, I have seen zero meth houses living here in 9 years, and there are high paying jobs you just have to look. If you love big govt, and are lazy looking for a handout Yes, Pahrump is not for you.

The good part about this post is it will keep the nanny state types from moving out here. You want to be a baby mommy welfare queen? Vegas is looking great.

    March 23, 2011 at 8:54 am

  54. elizabethtool

OY VEY! Maybe you should ask the Sheriff how many meth houses are in Pahrump! Or try reading a newspaper once in awhile….

And what does baby mommy welfare queen have to do with retired elderly people? Pahrump is filled with unemployed men who are too lazy to work to pay child support apparently they were too stupid to use a condom or from the lack of work couldn’t afford them! Other than that I don’t know what any man’s excuse for having children out of marriage is. My own father who served in three wars didn’t tolerate men who did not pay child support and his own brother was not welcome in his home for that reason. But my father was from the John Wayne era he wasn’t some whining pussy and he hated to listen to whining pussies. Seriously are you a grown man?

Another thing….funny you didn’t include include any factual links statistics to back up your claims that 99% of this post is incorrect. As my Daddy would have said Quit talking out your ass. If you had ever served your country you would be familiar with that phrase.

I have lived here in Pahrump for about 9 years and its true alot of things in this town are bad/dark/dirty…just like any other town in America. What makes or breaks any place you move to has alot to do with yourself. If you are the negative type you will attract negative types. I dont want to insult anyone and that is not my intentions, but before anyone makes a decision based on what one person is blogging about I think you should all step back and reread what she has said and how she has said it., She has insulted almost every single person who has responded with views differently than her own (as I am sure she will do with mine as well). I used to hate feel alot of the same way about this place as she does, I hatd it here> It was so different than where i came from (boulder Colo), but then i realized it wasnt the town I hated, it was the group of people i knew. I have since moved on to better friends and company and love it here. So like anywhere else in the world, you are only as good as the friends you keep, and wherever you go there you are… You choose and make your experiences in life, please dont let one persons negative views of things determine your thoughts. Im sorry if this letter offends you Elizabeth, Truly I am. I just also want to speak the truth about this town only i chose to do it without insulting anyone whose views were different than mine..
    respectfully,
    Jim

    April 13, 2011 at 4:19 am

  56. elizabethtool

Respectfully Jim, I have only insulted people who have left insulting comments, and argued ridiculous opinions based on dreamland and not fact! If you read my post you would know that every time I go to Pahrump I thoroughly enjoy myself with the scenery and surrounding area. I could make the best of a cardboard box if I had to! I have lived in many cities in many states all of which I enjoyed throughly. Pahrump as I say in my post is a great place if you are young and into rockhounding, hiking, love the desert. But selling it as a retirement town is crazy. Maybe one day it will be a retirement community but as I said there are much better places to retire and the quality of life will be much better.

What exactly is your purpose in leaving a comment you have said nothing of substance, you have addressed none of the town issues. What is your opinion of Shirley Matson? Your tax assessor who thinks Mexicans are dirty. What exactly is the truth of Pahrump you are talking about? Once again you have avoided every single issue. You have said you don’t hang out with bad people anymore…..well I’m glad you learned your lesson. I did not have that particular problem in Pahrump and have never been one to have friends of questionable character.

Why don’t you add something about your town. Maybe since I was last there some features have been added. Is there bus service to Las Vegas for elderly people to go shopping? Has a trauma center been added? Do people still have to be flown by helicopter to Vegas in an emergency. Has the town bothered to find out how much water is really available and how fast the aquifer is being depleted? What about the new prison it it affecting the water supply? What about elderly homeowners will they be able to afford having a sewer system put in if so required? Have they built a movie theater. What about the high unemployment has that gone down? Has the median income risen? What does your help wanted section look like. Has the housing market stopped falling? Has the town built any new parks?? a better senior center? how about more paved sidewalks and what about animal control? There were a lot of dogs running around last time I visited. I recently heard your town didn’t budget wisely.

And exactly who do you think I insulted? Apparently you had no problems with the guy who told me to fuck off!

I have concluded that the reason none of the people leaving inane comments can address the town issues except for the lalaland…there are no meth houses….is because there is no defense. What I have written cannot be disputed because it is true.

Thank you for leaving the comment it reminds me that I desperately need to update the post with the latest scandals! I’ll try to get that done before Yellowstone opens!

    April 13, 2011 at 9:43 pm

  57. Jim

Really the whole point of me leaving a comment was to speak up about a place that you are selling as basically a hellhole. I wont deny that this town has some problems, and as far as Shirley Matson is concerned…well her racist comments only shows her ignorance…newsflash lots of gov people are ignorant, albeit some more than others. Personally I think shes sick and should be reomoved from her position. But the fact you have heard about it should show you that her comments are being taken seriously and is not acceptable. We do have a hospital here now: http://www.desertviewhospital.com as far as a trauma center i dont know what level they are if any, but i do know that they do a very good job and the er wait times are non existent. (having been a patient and also working in a las vegas hospital I feel they do a wonderful job). No there is no real work here though and when positions open up they are quickly filled, so really this town would not be a good place for younger people as you have to commute to vegas for work, but I thought we were talking about a “retirement community”? which in that case its great….and Im sure your blog readers who consider Pahrump are smart enough to know that this is the desert so expect it to be hot and dry here. We are unincorporated which is nice…look at the census report we have a high rate of married couples compared to most cities, and there is alot of good people here. I can look up any city and find all sorts of bad things about it, you can do that anywhere and my point was to point that out to people. We all have a choice (almst everywhere) to either look at the positive things or the negative things…I choose to look at the positive. I used to hang out with the neg community shes talking about and admit Yes shes right in that case it sucks here, but now that I dont its really quite pleasant. my guess is she knew the wrong people or got in trouble here. There is bad people everywhere at least in this town you have to go out and find it still, it doesnt often come to you. fact were getting a prison I dont like, but on the positive side there will be more police living here and hopefully some more jobs. As far as water problems? I guess water levels are dropping 2 feet per year? but there will be enough water for our lifetimes. What the future holds is unknown, but soon most places will start to have problems like this im sure…mostly though its alot of hype to keep this town small….And thats really what this is, a small town where most all lots are 1 acre, you can do pretty much what you want on your property, and just enjoy the beautiful desert scenery. Eventually the idiots will be weeded out and the political problems wont be allowed to exist as we grow…its a step back in time about 10 years or so living here, but its getting better exponentially all the time. Im retired here and from my experience of actually being retired here i say its a great place, maybe its not for you, but it just seems like your awful hostile about it here. You act like your comments are innocent, but to me they dont sound so, they sound like you are on a vendetta.. im sorry that you hate it here so much, really I am because I have met some of the nicest people here that I have ever known.

    April 14, 2011 at 6:22 pm

  58. elizabethtool

Funny how you start out addressing me then a commentary about what my life was like in Pahrump and then return to addressing me again! If you had actually read my post you would know the reason I lived in Pahrump! Go ahead I dare you! Actually read the entire post instead of imagining what it says.

While I did encounter some unsavory characters as I told you before I do not waste my time with such nonsense. I did not get in any sort of trouble and worked in Las Vegas for the year I lived in Pahrump. In fact I have never been in “trouble” in my life except for two speeding tickets! There is a good book called HOW WE KNOW WHAT ISN’T SO by Thomas Gilovich associate professor of psychology at Cornell. it may help you to understand what people are writing instead of projecting your own imagination or what has happened in your life onto others. It may also help you to see the town politics with new eyes and you can help make Pahrump a better town.

And again I asked for facts you stated that the emergency room is wonderful but don’t know if they deal with trauma which leads me to believe that you were either too lazy to look it up or you did look it up and are feigning ignorance. First you say you are retired then you say you have been both patient and worked in Vegas hospitals. Problem with someone who posts under two different names is that you don’t know if they are really who they say they are. All I know is that you are deceptive! I also don’t understand the comment about the hospital doing a very good job do you mean the one in Pahrump or the one in Vegas? I have personally experienced Pahrump the wait was four hours.

The water levels? Where is that link? Especially the one about there being enough water to last a lifetime? Whose lifetime? Have you considered the next generation? Probably not just as you miss the point of this article others plight is outside your scope of consideration.

While my main focus is the elderly anyone moving to Pahrump should consider the reality as there are few jobs and except for county jobs most are minimum wage. Commutes are equally important to the elderly who may only commute once a week or a month or twice a year as it is in many cases. The point is that for elderly people to go out for a movie some shopping or lunch besides the casinos or Walmart its an ordeal for many. And as people get older they like to drive less in busy traffic or at night.

Make no mistake when people leave idiotic comments on my blog I defend my positions and point out the ludicrousness of their insults and positions they make. Nothing disturbs me more than people whose make shit up. There isn’t a damn thing innocent about my comments and I don’t pretend any such thing!

P.S. my favorite sentence in your comment was “Eventually the idiots will be weeded out and the political problems wont be allowed to exist as we grow…” oh my you know this because you have observed this in history? Really? Do you have inside information? Are you the one who will not allow it? OY VEY! Once again I suggest you click on the link to Professor Gilovich’s book!

    Good Luck in your “retirement”!

I don’t think Pahrump is doomed for future generations. To address the water situation, there are plenty of Water from Thin Air generators available on-line for around the price of a home water heater. Many towns have to import something they don’t locally produce or gather. In this case it is water, and it could be available for around 35 cents a gallon. Having that need provides a ton of opportunity for town growth. Yes, having such an appliance would need cheaper power. Look online in November 2011, when it starts rolling off the line, for a device called the Rossi Energy Catalyzer (E-Cat). It will generate power at about one tenth the cost of a coal power plant. It just comes down to money, and infrastructure. I would say a “Disney Land of Sex” would be in tall order and an economically viable resource to make Pahrump a wealthy Tourist Hotspot.

I have one of these, and I have off the Grid Water, the solar panel went on my roof. I only pay a few hundred a month for it, for 2 years. Here is the link:

Interesting link. How many gallons do you get in such a dry region?

    May 14, 2011 at 1:00 pm

  62. alex

The humidity so far has averaged about 30-35%, some days are much different higher and lower than that. But, at that humidity, I collect about 1 to 1.5 gallons a day. If I had the cheaper non solar unit, I could run it during early morning as well when the humidity is the greatest. I would probably pull in about 1.5 to 2 gallons a day if I supplemented with grid power, and ran it for 18 hours. But, I m all about self sustainability, so 1 gallon seems plenty for me and my wife.

I would imagine, if Pahrump’s mayor, or someone like yourself backed by few hundred others, petitioned the Nevada Senator to subsidize water generators, and a large portion of the population had them, the aquifer might begin to fill again. Other actions would also have to be taken like rationing the amount of water each household could buy from the city based on the local census. If the mayor would not do such a thing, it is entirely possibly if you, personally, have a majority of the population sign the petition based on the fact it is the driest region in the nation, tied with Yuma in fact. Good luck with the situation you and your family find yourself in at Pahrump.

If you take the surface area of the aquifer, and find the rate in inches per year it lowers, you can calculate the cubic feet the water supply is depleting annually. There are 7.4805 gallons in a cubit foot of water. The latest census shows the number of families are about 3500. If you are modest in saying there were no plans for the State to subsidize one of those devices, and maybe half of those families could afford a device at roughly $1200 on credit, the town would see an increase of 1750 to 2500 gallons of water a day or 64 to 91 thousand gallons of water not being taken from the aquifer per year. It turns out it is something like 8500 to 12000 cubic feet of drinking water saved. Now if the State did subsidize and say the number of families who could afford one, rose to close to 100% the cubic feet saved would be double.

Some of those companies offer industrial sized units, which can hold 5000 gallon tanks, and instead of buying a home unit, a water tax could be used to pay for such a device, but then you give up control to the City of how you use your own water.

Either way, there seems to be an answer to give Pahrump a face lift, in terms of sustainability, and possibly open it up for other venues, in tourism, to build on it’s unique laws. Heck, there is already an established airport nearby. Someone with the right presentation could put it on the map. I am an engineer, I figure things like this out for a living.

Thank you for the time on this blog.

Thank you for your kind wishes. I’m not sure if you live in Pahrump or not. If you do, have you presented this to Andy Alberti?

I live in Montana now but every western state has water issues when I was living in Oregon the entire town of Merrill ran out of water one day. They have been using ground water to irrigate their alfalfa and potato crops. Their solution was to get longer pipes. Crisis over the future is forgotten. Mandating water saving shower heads would also save a tremendous amount of water.

I don’t know that Pahrump will ever attract the sort of people that have the capabilities of changing the political landscape the way Montana. People with tremendous wealth who want to preserve natural beauty and resources while being engaged in big business.

Thank you for the informative comments,

  65. Gone for good

Elizabeth, I agree with most everything you have said on this blog! You are an excellent writer, to say the least! To make a long story short, I have 2 degrees, viewd Pahrump as a beautiful place to live and fastly found out that I AM OUT OF THIS HELL HOLE! What I did not like was how I saw corruption throughout the town. I dealt with it when I rented a home and also when I went to buy a home. I will not go into the details as it makes me sick to think of these nickling and diming people I dealt with. I went on the to Town Board meetings and observed DeMeo, the sheriff. What a piece of work he is! A man stood up and shouted at DeMeo because this man’s son had died in DeMeo’s prison (the guy was an attorney who died); also, the man had lost his other 2 sons! DeMeo snarled at him while DeMeo’s wife laughed and grinned! I was appalled. Also, DeMeo’s crew tased an unarmed family man, 5 times and now this man is ill from this. His heart stopped twice and he taken away in an ambulance. What the hell? DeMeo’s crew has also tased another man who packs, is retired vet and lived in Pahrump 22 years. That is all they know. Tase. Tase. Tase…. family people…. not gang people… And, what is up with the German lady who owned a store being shot in the face and killed by an illegal??? The bad news is too much in this small town!!!!

Oh, and this is the best news yet!! Mr. Harley Kulkins just PUSHED through a Theme Park study which is costing the TOWN OF PAHRUMP A MILLION BUCKS; that is the study will cost that! Wow. The people said no. The little King said yes. There she blows! Oh, plus, Kolhbarger gets a new car, compliments of “the king” BECAUSE SURE AS HELL THE PEOPLE SAID NO AND THE KING SAID YES!! A brand new 2011 car! Plus,
Kolhbarger makes 108,000 grand a year!!! Wow. People are starving in town. And, Mr. Kulkins got a new car right after this, as well!! Boy, ya just gotta love it! Amazing Grace, how swee it is!!!

Oh, I could go on with more crap, but I know and read where people say “I am leaving. The home prices will never go up. The town is corrupt.”
It goes on like a bad story….

My water bill was 70.00 a month and 140.00 a month for electric….. I had a tiny, 2 bedroom home I shared with one conservative person. Go figure….I was told “the king of electric company makes 385,000 grand a year.” Wow. No wonder my electric was 140.00 per month!!! Way to go…

The only thing I did not agree with you on was Shirley Matson. Illegals have destroyed this nation and taken citizens jobs. Her daughter was left dead by one in San Diego, she had identy theft and on and on. Shirley is just mad as hell as I know so many of my friends are without jobs, double social security cards ( in a time where citizens may have their s.s. cut to shreds), hospitals closing, we pay for social services, etc…… NOT RIGHT. I have friends going hungry, all over who worked hard all their lives. It is a crying shame.

Any who, there was zip in Pahrump and I am glad I saw the corruption. Oh, yes, I also saw the grafeti all over! The jails bring that!!! And, the welfare will keep on going. Probably Harley World will give free tickets to The Theme Park to those on welfare! Alas, when all the expenses get done for Theme Parks, big state salaries in Pahrump, PAHRUMP WILL BE A CLOSED, GHOST TOWN!!! Thank God, I ran like hell……

  66. elizabethtool

Congratulations for having the good sense to run while you can! I can’t believe Harley got the theme park pushed through….Vegas can’t get enough tourists who would want to go to Pahrump. Fly into Vegas and then drive an hour? I heard about the new cars like THE EMPEROR WHO HAS NO CLOTHES only its about fiscal responsibility. You wouldn’t see Warren Buffet being impressed with new wheels while the town is in shambles. The only type of people impressed with sugar coating are the type of people you shouldn’t do business with.

I disagree with you about Shirley Matson. I am well aware that it is all too easy to lower ones self in a moment of frustration (this post is a perfect example). Reducing yourself to name calling and blaming Mexicans or any other illegal immigrant is what the corporations want you to do. Americans have gotten lazy about two things. Worker’s rights and working period. Illegals for the most part are taking jobs Americans are too lazy to do. Agriculture, construction and housekeeping. My company has a hard time getting people to apply much less pass a drug test. The job I have now was posted for almost two months and not a single person applied for it and I live in Montana which is predominantly white and has lots of unemployment. I have neices and nephews who don’t get that having a job means getting up EVERY DAY and going to work. They think welfare money grows on trees. I’m not against welfare I’m against people who are capable of working who are proud to continually not work at the burden of the tax-payer. For the most part the generation coming up takes no pride in hard work….or work at all. There was a dairy in Wisconsin that got busted for hiring illegals but he had no choice even though he started his employees at 30,000 they wouldn’t show up, and didn’t like the hard work. The same thing when some of the agriculture companies in California tried to hire only American Citizens- they spent money on advertising got together with several different employment agencies and ended up having to use labor from Mexico legally with the temporary work visas. Some people were hired but after a few days of work they start calling in or don’t show up altogether. I have never worked with a lazy Hispanic. Having said all that I know we have a problem with a criminal element and they should all be sent back immediately. No wasting tax dollars in our cushy prisons. But now that the prisons are run as for profit corporations the more prisoners the more money they make. Look at the corporations they encourage the common folks to blame each other. I have only been screwed over by whites while they blindly represent their company.

This is a scary time job wise. I have never been nervous about supporting myself until the last five years. But I don’t see it as an immigration problem (although I know we have one as well as an over population problem) for me personally I have seen my salary go down not up my benefits have been eroding for well over a decade. More money for less coverage. While one of the companies I worked for was going bankrupt the higher ups were still flying first class, riding in limos, and staying at five star hotels. CEO’S get richer and richer then have the nerve to complain about what little taxes they do pay!

Thank you for your informative and thought provoking comment.

  67. Gone for good

Yes, Elizabeth, Americans have become lazy; a large part due to welfare and drugs. I grew up on a rach where we had what was then brazeros come in, pick our cherries and go on to the next state to pick the next crop; however, we had plenty of white people also pick the fruit. Long ago, what people termed “the Oakies” came from Oklahoma to work their asses off; which they did. They picked our crops, along with myself and did a damn good job. They also worked in hotels, etc. Now, illegals will do the work for less money then US citizens.
We have been flooded with illegals in California, Arizona, Texas and in many other states. After working in a prison, as an educator, I will tell you that a large percentage of them have illegitimate children with not one woman but many women. They say things like such “Ms C, why don’t you and your husband have a baby, you will get $300.00 a month!” I am divorced and raised my only child by myself. The thinking is very different and one must work in a prison to realize this. As for my self, I got out early as one of the illegals who were going to State prison came inches within a full blown attack on me and destroyed my entire class! I had post traumatic stress for months and months to come. This became a norm; not only for me, but fights breaking out day after day. One of my friends is 6 ft. 5 and told me “I am quitting; what are you waiting for. You will be killed in your class.” I left right before the 109 “student” melee in education broke out. It never reached the paper because “the paper does not want that publicity.” Not to mention, I had many an illegal tell me “I don’t need to have an education for what I am going to be doing.” It was stress from the moment I entered the class to the moment I left. My health fastly went down. The guards, who for the most part, are uneducated, do little or nothing and have big pensions/salaries that have broke California.

Yes, you are right again about big corporations and the money they make as they jet around; as us peons scrape by. Can you imagine going bankrupt and they spend money like drunken sailors? This is sick. After taxes, forget the prison teaching.
Not worth one’s health. I would never turn my back on my “students”. It was just my job to graduate them or get them their GED. That was very difficult. I did it with blood, sweat and tears.

I say we need to make people get off their lazy welfare asses and be made to produce. There is no reason hotels can not be cleaned by people on welfare. There is no reason people here can not pick crops. There is no reason that US citizens can not do anything illegals can do.

I personally am sick of the fact that people can come here illegally, have the children here and they are automatic citizens. This is wrong. I was taught you do not bring in more children then you can take care of; that is exactly what I did. I had one child. I planned, I paid my own college, and
and I saved for a future that is not here for millions of similar baby boomers. Welfare has spread my wealth. Most of my friends, who are well educated can not find jobs. They were born here, their parents were born here and so forth. I am not the only one who is livid over this.

Much of the Meth that has been produced by illegals, in Ca. along, with other drugs have been linked to high murder rates, robberies, etc. I personally am sick of it and everyone I know is equally sick of it. I am so glad that there is 50 million dollars that have been raised privately, to build a fence along Arizona.
I only wish they would extend it all the way along from California.

I am sure if you lived where Shirley lived and had the things happen to you, like she did (which NO human should have done to them) you might feel a little different. When ever I had a student who acted odd, I would go into my computer to study his background. I did this on DeMeo. He of all people, should not be opening his pie hole and stirring the shit pot on Shirley. As they say “if you own home ain’t clean, don’t worry about others.”
I observed his arrogance and his so called wife’s, when they laughed at an elderly man at a Town Board meeting. This was as cruel as it comes.
The man’s son was an attorney who was put in DeMeo’s jail on “short term”. This man said DeMeo did not give his son his meds so his son killed himself. The man also lost his other son to a heart attack and another was killed in the street by a car. I despise this town as it’s leaders are totally inept and unprofessional!! This gentleman lost his entire family and their laughed at him? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS TOWN?

I was told the study for the theme park was a million dollars. Let’s see. A welfare town, no jobs, and this??? Wow. Someone is making some bucks off of this.

No, Mexicans are not lazy but there are vets standing around on corners in every state I have visited (recently Texas, Arizona and Nevada) and
30 million or more citizens who want work and can not get it. Now, I can not say what goes on in Montana but I will tell you I have friends who have 500 applications in and can not find work here. My son’s friends can not find work. Thank God I am supporting my son but this can not go on forever.
We need to change the system. Welfare people need to take any job that is offered. Plain and simple. Illegals need to go back to free up millions from the profit jail system, reduce millions in crime and MAKE other citizens work. You are right. This generation is damn lazy and we need to give them a kick in the ass to jump start all of them.

You summed Pahrump up to a T. It is exactly that. Again, very well state. Very well written. I loved the mountains and a handful of intelligent people attempting to stop the corruption. Look up The Rudd center. The ones who will make millions off of it, as I understand it, want it torn down; instead of fixing it, Then, put up a new one. That always works.

Of course, new buildings have been just brought in, as well for the county jail! They should rename Pahrump “Jail House Rock with a Theme Park” to boot! I wasn’t aware there was even one jail in Pahrump. I just wanted a quiet, little place to semi retire! What a joke!

You should consider becoming a teacher. Your thoughts are excellent and I am so glad I found you. You are actually the person who got my wheels turning to say “yes, that is how I see Pahrump. This lady is very bright. Thank God I read this!!! After reading this, I went on to talk with others, attend meetings and then said “Adios” I am the Sam hell out of this place.

P.S. Not to mention the news station in Pahrump. OMG! One sided, spaced out and very, very weird!

I couldn’t find work in Pahrump when I lived there and ended up driving 67 miles to Vegas each morning and night.. I was helping take care of a relative who was dying so I didn’t have rent to pay otherwise I wouldn’t have been making enough money to survive. I do ok in Montana but not enough to save for a good retirement and I’m not the type that wastes my money on cable tv or eating out very often. Most people who think they have enough for retirement haven’t had a medical crisis yet. Don’t get me started on the debacle in Washington….

Unfortunately I can no longer feel sorry for the people on the street corners claiming to be Vets who will work for food. When I worked in Vegas because I drove from place to place for a living and have lots of Catholic guilt I carried bottles of water and various food items nutrition bars…things that could withstand heat. I discovered much to my dismay that they didn’t want to eat! They would actually get pissed off at me. My standard line became. Eat so you can live another day to drink! Not one single person thanked me. And this was not a week of my life but every day multiple stops a day for almost an entire year. Now I only give to shelters where people are trying to get to where they can support themselves. I do believe in food, shelter and clothing for every person- I’m a Socialist -but logically speaking people need to work. Work is good for the mind and keeps people out of trouble. Isn’t that why they give mental patients buttons to sort? Everyone should work including prisoners. I’m not talking about abusive work but you don’t work you don’t eat type of work. I”m for forced sterilization too! One child on welfare and you get one of those birth control injections that last for years. And the WIC rules would apply to welfare across the country no slushies at 7-11 and no Redbull!

I commend you for raising your child by yourself. Working single moms should be applauded. Instead many that I know are barely making it while the ones who have babies for a living can afford the name brands at the grocery store and the latest electronics and live in better housing. People are no longer ashamed to be on welfare. Shame is healthy guilt is toxic. People are no longer ashamed and instead are proud to be on unemployment. Its hard for me to fathom. I was on unemployment for three months when my company went bankrupt I didn’t feel guilty we pay for unemployment insurance but I wasn’t proud. I am proud when I am an asset to my community in the capacity that I am able to give!

Other people have told me that I would make a good teacher but I’m a college dropout! I wouldn’t last a day with NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND! While I am a union supporter the teachers union need to be overhauled…..the country is a mess! Parents don’t care….they expect everything from the schools. You would be glad to know that in Montana students can only address adults by Mr. and Mrs. but one of my friends is having a hell of a time her child only has 14 students in the classroom and the teacher still can’t manage to teach. I know teachers who would be ecstatic to teach only 14 students! I can’t imagine teaching in a prison. You must be a Saint! You probably have lots of stories too!

About immigration we will have to agree to disagree. I think the problem is at the top not the bottom. Stop rewarding the corporations and the illegal problems will take care of themselves. About the fence along the border if I can find it there is a good article about the money and profit behind it. Nothing is as it seems.

I think some things are worth fighting for and others are a waste of energy. Pahrump is one of those things that is a waste. I would never buy a place to live unless I lived there for a year or more. I have never encountered a place like Pahrump. There are politics that I don’t agree with in Montana but that is going to happen every place. Life wouldn’t be interesting if I agreed with everything!

Hope you are having a great weekend!

It has been very nice to converse with someone who knows Pahrump that isn’t a whack-job. (referring to someone who said there were no meth houses in Pahrump!)

  69. Gone for good

Elizabeth, I can not even believe you are a college drop out!! Again, what you write is so clear and precise! It is great conversing with you, as well.
Yes, work is very important for the mind, body and soul!!! I am attempting to get settled, then I will explore different avenues of work. I figure if I survived being an educator in the prison, I could survive any job. It will be a piece of cake. Every day, my goal in my class was to make sure these “students” understood what a high school education meant to them; how important it was to have that diploma in their hand. Many of them had finished only up to 6th or 7th grade and hated school. I had to give them a reason to get that education. It was tough. They came in with so much baggage. See, Elizabeth, when all these babies are brought into the world and the mothers are “paid” to have them; it causes an endless chain of problems that we have to nip in the bud. You are correct. Sterilization. You just don’t keep having babies “because.” These “because” babies often end up abused, unloved, psychologically effected for life. I had them in my classes. They have vast social problems. If the teacher really wants to do his or her job, she needs to get to the root of all of these problems for these individuals to function. I can only speak for myself; for I wanted to give it all I had, to give meaning to that person’s life in order for him to be a productive citizen. I poured myself into my job. Daily, I would communicate with my son about issues, write ups and problems that ocurred in my room. Let me tell you something. Because I did this, my son sure walked the straight and narrow. He does excellent in school and never has been in problems…. I think he was appalled by these events and never wanted to go to prison!! Maybe I poured myself into these humans because of my Catholic up bringing. I was raised a very, very strict Catholic. I now just believe in God and pray, pray, pray.

Prisoners should work, as well! The ones who work in the prison are the ones who connect to life and are happy being productive! Productivity is the name of the game. Like you said, you hated being on unemployment. I always let mine erase boards, clean desks, whatever….. they wanted to do these things!

14 kids in a class??? Normal ones. Wow. At times I might have had 14 students but these were students who had been in gangs; a whole different ball park. I would not even know what to do with 14 regular kids! I will say, I was certainly challenged with mine. I could tell you some good stories, Elizabeth!

Probably, I survived as an educator in prison, for as a child I had to work in the fields since I was 7 years old. We only had 3 girls in the family.
One was ill. So, I pruned, irrigated, hoed, and drove tractor since I was 7 years old….. Now that I look back I say…. what a life. Wish my son could do the same. I irrigated at 1:00 AM around the clock as my father drove the semi truck for a gas company. We hoed weeds in 100 degree weather. Summers were for the ranch…… good old days…. ha, ha.

Since you left, there are many intelligent people who have left Pahrump because they know it can not be fixed. It is just what you said. It is like the cat chasing it’s tail in that town. The greed of the “upper” people is amazing! It most certainly will finish the town off. It is kind of like the big corporations you speak of!!! Greed to the max….. No wonder 60 minutes put Pahrump on the air …… and not to tell how wonderful it was either!

Have a great remaining weekend, Elizabeth. I am glad to see some of these people, besides myself, appreciate your sane, solid input. The others,
oh well, consider the source!!! 🙂

Not just a college drop out but a community college drop out! One of those things I regret but not willing to make the sacrifice. My brother is finally getting his degree at 49 but I took an online course in Statement Analysis that had a time limit but I could work at my own pace and I was freaking out! And it wouldn’t have been able to compete with hiking in the summer! As I always say I work to support my unpaid hobbies….

I grew up on a small goat farm so the chores weren’t quite as strenuous.

I don’t know what else to say about Pahrump that I haven’t said before. I keep meaning to update the post with some of the new scandals but it will have to wait until winter when I spend more time indoors.

    Have a great day!

I LOVE PAHRUMP.. why you ask?

Because THERE IS NO SAFETY NET.. it keeps the welfare types out, it also keeps out the nanny staters who want to ban everything. AKA Californians.

Its FREE here.. imagine the freedoms you had in the 70’s.. well you have them here.

CRIME IS LOW.. no matter what this nitwit tells you.. crime is minimal.

Our sherrif has done a great job busting tweakers.. there is little to no meth in this town anymore.

Again.. no nanny state laws or HOAs, because the town board and its members are so busy yelling at one another.. it keeps them busy.. and keeping them busy means less nanny state laws for ME.

Keep on hating pahrump.. tell your yuppie friends how much it sucks.. we dont need you here anyway.

    Thanks.. and BYE.

Hmmm. Overlord and eek have the same ip address! 24.72.186.250 Too funny are you a grown man who has to pretend others agree with him? Try again! And I doubt you have a “largepenis” as your email suggests. The only reason I’m leaving your comments up is to show people considering moving to Pahrump what they can expect from their neighbors.

BTW I live in Montana we have a lot less people on welfare than you do! What is Pahrump unemployment at now? 20%? I hear you now have a tent city of homeless people. Lots of time to do all that meth!

  74. Gone for good

Oh, my God, Elizabeth. These statements came straight from “Deliverance”; this is the reason sane people leave Pahrump, even if it is at the cost of loosing their home, etc. Crime is low?? Ha. Ha. That is why a new 26 mil prison just “arrived” into Pahrump and a huge one sets on the hill…. awaiting fill up!!! Look at the weekly police report; that ought to tell you about crime in a population of less then 25,000. I had not a clue they had 2 prisons in Pahrump.

These whack jobs must be part of the welfare system in Pahrump as they are so ignorant all they can say is “fuck you”. Ha, ha. Maybe they should know when the million dollar study comes out on a future defunct “Them Park” THEY WON’T BE GETTING THEIR WELFARE AS THERE WILL BE NO WELFARE LEFT FOR THEM!!! IT WILL THEN COST MILLIONS TO BUILD IT WHICH PAHRUMP DOES NOT HAVE!!! These people are as dumb as a box of rocks!!!

I hear Carl’s Jr. is up for sale, Albertson’s has very little business, no new business, 3 fire works stands (illegal to take out of Pahrump), and TWO JAILS!!! Oppss…. Did I leave anything major out??? A REAL GROWNING, GOING PLACE; THAT IS FOR THE POLICE, FIRE, DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND OTHER HIGH OFFICIALS! LET THEM EAT CAKE; THE OTHER SERFS IN THE TOWN CAN EAT DIRT!!!

And, another thing for these ship of fools: California people and back East people have WORMED their way to the top for GREAT PAYING JOBS AND HAVE LEFT IDIOTS LIKE YOU OUT!!! That should be an eye opener for you!!!!!

its funny! That guy hid behind a mailinator address which is used by spammers and people to cowardly to give their real name! I never heard of the term sockpuppet until I got a blog. These crazy people get different names and post under them so they can pretend like others agree with them. I always post their ip addresses because these assclowns think they are anonymous. No one on the internet is anonymous.

Well said, Elizabeth, “assclowns” they are!!! If they only had half your talent. They are pathetic humans to say the least!!! Oh, I forgot to tell you, I love the picture of the horse, with the beautiful eye, when you open your website! Photography is right up your line and those buffalo are great as well!
Since childhood, I have always been in love with the majestic buffalo…… Have a wonderful weekend!

Well I was shocked when my daughter found this on the internet and can’t remember why or how but It’s nice to see that someone else has the right perspective of life in Pahrump. I have lived here for 16 years and can tell you there is not a thing you posted that isn’t true! I could add a few more things. I know the first time I came here for a visit (before I moved here) I was shocked at the surroundings, it looked like another planet and the dirties planet I’ve ever seen! I come from the Pacific Northwest and we have the cleanest highways! Our litter fine is less then here too, so the fines are higher and the highway’s are dirtier. It is depressing to see all the garbage because everything is open you can see for miles. What they need to do is have the trustee’s clean the highways like they do where I come from.
The second thing that shocked me was the horses I saw in small area’s with no shade or tree’s standing there in the heat, that shocked me. We had lived on a ranch for 5 yrs. as ranch hands and had the opportunity to have our own horses and I watched them, when it was hot they stand under a tree or anything that has shade.
I am not the person that call’s people “trailer trash” because they live in trailers, but clean the yard up? You could make a 4 by 8 shed look like a million dollars, again there were alot of places with nothing but junk!
I don’t go for the californian’s coming up here though and making life miserable for people either just because they have money…they are here for a reason to pick on the less fortunate cuz’ they think their poop doesn’t stink.
It is sad to see all the kid’s here who’s parents are at the casino’s or bar’s while the kid’s are left to their own demise. Kid’s are having kids because they don’t have structure at home or a parent that gives a crap…(I’m not stereotyping all). Prescription abuse is rampent here along with alcoholism, and most of all “TWEAK” i WAS SHOCKED AT ALL THE SO CALLED PROMINENT PEOPLE THAT WERE DOING IT. From Real Estate to Electric Company. I too tried to apply at DMV as that was the last job I had in my state…and you’re right someone has to die to get a job. In my state you took a State Test and had to have 80 or better I got 97 and was hired within 3 weeks…(in my state)here you have to go to Vegas and hope an opening comes in Pahrump and sad to say you do have to wait for someone to die.
Here is my biggest beef, The Nye County Police Department, where they not hired to serve us? I am paying their wages and for what? The police have no problem getting you for tickets, etc. but let me see if you call them it is ALWAYS A CIVIL MATTER! I just got out of a 14 yr. marriage when I moved here and a single mom of three. I took a car to a place I was referred to, (this was when I started seeing the “METH” problem). Valley Street Rods at the time, I made the mistake of handing the owner the whole lump sum as I was used to my ex-husband handling matters like that. Long story short he ripped me off for 8,000 dollars, and guess what? Nye County did nothing!…famous last words…”CIVIL MATTER”. I was shocked! I had all the receipts, his signature, everything needed to prosecute him…but to no avail….later found out he was big into tweak and the police were protecting him for some reason. Well justice did come in an unexpected way, as angry as I was I didn’t wish his fate, He made so many enemies and hung with meth heads…big meth heads I might add, that he was shot and killed by a 72 yr old man. “What goes around comes around” at least it wasn’t done by my own hands…anyways it’s good to vent to the world and let them know what it is really like living here…most of the police look at you like you are the scum of the earth, and I am going to start making a stand, it is my tax dollars that are paying their wages and they are here to protect me not just go after the criminals….and stop looking so high and mighty till they have served a tour of duty….God Bless Ian Deutsch though I have alot of admiration for him. He was the one in a million!

To add another comment on the former commissioner Candace Trummell, you are also right about that…that whole family…they are arrogant, they have e deacon in the church that has a problem with younger boy’s, and had a conviction for it and is still a deacon of the church…and they treat their good employee’s like a piece of worthless human being…they were my worst experience as employers.

Thank you for adding your comments. I haven’t been to Pahrump for a few years so I can’t say if it has gotten worse since I lived there. People I know say it has. They say there are hundreds of homeless people living in the desert behind Smiths. I just hope those who are considering retirement will read this will take my advice and rent for a year before they buy into Pahrump.

Is the deacon a registered sex offender?

Oh and the horse thing isn’t that hard to look at….

  82. Thank you, I’ve recently been looking for info approximately this topic for a while and yours is the best I have came upon so far. However, what concerning the conclusion? Are you sure concerning the supply?|What i don’t understood is in fact how you are now not actually a lot more well-liked than you might be right now. You’re so intelligent.

Funny how some people live here and hate it and some love it. Sure, Pahrump has issues, but I find that if you are not part of the criminal element, these problems never seem to find you.

Looks like on this blog, there are lots of people who could not hack it out here. If you are a welfare queen looking for a handout, or a person from a non free state, you will hate it out here.

All I see is growth, new businesses coming to town, and good things in the future for this town.

I am not getting Elizabeth’s beautiful bison pictures anymore! Her photography is way cool! Since leaving Pahrump we have just lost one of our closest, dearest friends who advised us, just as Elizabeth had on her posts “do not buy a home here in Pahrump.”His wife and him had the crap pounded out of them in Pahrump. He wanted to help us from throwing away our life savings on a home in Pahrump. Thank God he told us this.
They were down-to-earth, lovely people who would give you the shirt off their back. He was tased 5 times by the lovely police of Pahrump AND HE WAS UNARMED. He had never had a run in in his entire life with any law enforecement. Oh, he got some settlement for the sherriff’s tasing but it became a tangled mess and he died before seeing a penny of it!!!! His health deteroriated and he became a broken man. SHAME ON YOU VERMIN WHO DID THIS TO A LAW ABIDING AMERICAN CITIZEN!!! HE WAS A FAMILY MAN! HE WOULD HELP ANYONE! YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID TO THIS MAN!!!! I CAN NOT FIND ENOUGH WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOU!!!!!
HE NEVER RECOVERED FROM THIS FILTHY UNLAWFUL ACT IN THE EXACT TOWN ELIZABETH DESCRIBES TO A “T”. : PAHRUMP. THERE IS A PLACE IN hell for you! You know who you are. And, further, for the people who pushed and shoved for this gentleman’s acreage to be fenced and cleaned up of their belongings; I hope you are happy now. YOU KILLED HIM!!!!!! You pushed and shoved an elderly man till he died of a heart attack from the health problems you low life created for him! I only hope ALL OF YOU can not sleep at night because some day your number will be up and may God have mercy on your SOULESS souls. I will never stop thanking this dear man for everything he did for us and saving us from the craphole of Pahrump. Oh, yes, the handful of good people continue to fight the good fight against the corrupt politicians and wanna be politicians. God Bless these people for having the strength to carry on against CORRUPTION. I pray they win their fight very soon. Pahrump is sinking fast from CORRUPTION and with the fearless people who are fighting to stop the CORRUPTION the town might not go dark. I am hoping and praying to wake up and read that The Town Board is DEMOLISHED and Pahrump’s citizens will be free of the torture that has been bestowed upon it. Again, God Bless the good people I met in Pahrump for fighting to end CORRUPTION AND BRING BACK GOODNESS TO THIS RETIREMENT TOWN.
